does having a different workgroup have any relavence to your network not working?

like if i am in HOME and my other computer is in WORK they can still see each other via ips right?

also, are they case sensitive?

If on the same network with no bridge or router to a different net, the workgroup should be the same.

No, or maybe. It depends on which protocol you are using. With NetBEUI, won't work. With TCP/IP, it might work. I'm assuming Win 95/98/Me. I don't know if the same applies in NT or 2K.

actually yes it will work

in your network neighborhood it will show all the networks, without a server what happens is each client acts as a server. This is called peer to peer. All the computers connected will display the neighborhood they are in.

Depending on your OS you can search or add the other computer. Just add \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (x=IP address).
