According to the NYT;

Starbucks workers at a store in Buffalo voted to unionize, making it the only company-owned store in the U.S. with a union.

How can we help more workers take up their fundamental human right to organize their labor? Good news like this has been rare in a country that 70 percent of the people look favorably upon unions.

keep being positive. Go out of our way to support people's rights to a living wage.

I'm an operating engineer, and just finished my part of a large apartment building. The concrete contractor is non-union, and I walked down the street to my union hall to put in a good word for the rigger there, who I have worked with on a couple of jobs.
I encourage anyone to get into a trades union who is not in one now and working construction. I have a hardhat with union positive stickers on it, and will talk with anyone about union memberships.

We really need to reverse the decades long slide of unions and the related loss of power of labor. It's obvious based on current wage increases that corporations could have paid more the whole time, but they need to be......properly motivated.

I'm a retired Operating Engineer.I helped several good workers get into the union, spent a time as a business agent for my local, organized a few smallish construction contractors with/for the workers. I had guys who said, "I don't want to pay union dues." I usually replied with, " the union companies pay $xxx, your company pays $xx. The difference in wages...PLUS the different in benefits is what I call "non-union dues." "

Two words:
Portable benefits

I have worked for dozens of different contractors over the decades.
Each one paid into my retirement, and I get one check.
Could you imagine what I would have if each one started a 401k? What about vesting? Yeah I would have shit for retirement.
We are about 16 months and 19 days to go, but who's counting? :D

Exactly. Some years I worked for 7-8 different companies, other times,I'd be with the same contractor for a couple of years on a big job. I didn't really care whose paycheck I got...the fringe benefits all paid into the same set of accounts.

Maybe, hopefully this problem with the worker shortage will result in more and stronger unions. Most companies freak when a worker dare mention the word union. When an CEO can afford to play spaceman and rockets into space, its damn time for a union.
