two months of working in the library... fvck this...

it's really getting boring. On top of my 17 units of class, it's kinda hard to manage.

Today I worked 4 hrs.

Hr #1: shelving for a full hr down in the stacks

Hr #2: help unload discharged books / whatever in the reshelving room (where they make the carts full of books to be taken down into the stacks).. I ended up reading Memoirs of a Geisha instead in a little corner.

Hr #3: Break hour! I get a short shelving task with a half loaded cart.. I finish within 20 min, and so even though I'm supposed to only get 20 min break, I run out and use the whole 40 min to surf the web in the comp lab next door and I go buy some food because I usually skip lunch. Return 40 minutes feeling food coma...

Hr #4: Make a cart full of books in the reshelving room so I can take it down into the stacks. I load a cart half full (no sorting) so it looks like I have some stuff done, and then I start reading Memoirs of a Geisha again. Instead I spot some more intersting books like "Navy Today" and articles about US Foreign Policy. As I read this, I wonder to myself why I'm not majoring in Poli Sci. as this is infinitely many times more interesting than my materials science books....

And then I picked up my paycheck of $459.89. Yay. Two new Seagate 7200.10s? =)

I was thinking about a new 7200.10 myself, but so many people say they run really hot.

true and my HD cage is going to be with 4 HDs that way... 2x 7200.10s + 1x 7200.9 + Raptor... definitely hot like TSSssssss.

But then again it's affordable storage....

Get yourself a mutual fund account and stop buying hard drives. Retire early so you don't have to work ****** library jobs.

I worked at the law library at Ole Miss. I got a strange joy out of kicking out law students who had waited till the last minute to use WestLaw to... you know... do law stundent things. The cries of agony and horror of the once future lawyers, doomed to fail out of school, were like music to my ears.

Wait until you enter the real world and have to work a real job. It's even better if you're a salaried employee; you work overtime and don't get paid for it! Hooray you!

On average, you'll work 10-12 hours per day, five days per week with about 45 minutes for lunch (on a good day) and no breaks!

How's that sound, Jacko? :p

I'm a Network System Admin. My work hours are from 8:00AM to 5:00PM. Yeah, right.

I'm in by 7:30 and typically leave anywhere from 5:30-6:30. I talk work during lunch and carry the on-call pager one week out of the month...then I get called at 3:00AM for stupid sh2t that could wait until morning. But noooooo, it's gotta be fixed NOW.

I do like what I do, though and it's always good to like what you do.

A "work-study" job in a library is the best while still in school... you earn money while getting your homework/studying done. Sure it's boring, but most jobs are.
