who needs high-tech?

* Rubber band wars
* Play Darts on the ceiling. Darts made from two push-pins, tape, and Post-It Notes. (you can just skip the Post-It Notes, and use more tape, but what fun is that?) When you run out of push-pins, use old fashion pencils, sharpened to a nice point. Hint: Don't play darts over YOUR desk.
* Dozens of rare earth magnets. Stick to bosses cabinets. Cubical walls. Etc. Not all at once, but in batches of a dozen or two, every week or so.

No, when not busy I used to have things to do to keep my mind off the fact that my workplace has begun to suck. Now it seems like they want me to focus on that.

you should be using that time to do some training or learning something new to contribute to your job. /saracastic

We are a government contractor who used to have our own office building but they moved us into a cube farm with all the other contractors to save money.

Oh no, you have to work in a cube farm with all the other riff raff, how awful

What about YouTube or funny sites or they are blocked too?

I am glad that I have my Smartphone with me at all time so I can get on the net whenever I couldn't with my regular computer.

I wonder what people did back in the 80s and earlier when they were bored at work... I remember in the 70s when I was a little kid, all my dad (an accountant) had in his office were binders full of papers and a big desk and calculator. Not even an ATOT to post on when he was bored!

Made me laugh, and true words. The 80s sucked ass. I don't get the nostalgia people have for the 80s. Pure cheese through and through.

I assume the jeans thing goes to charity. I've worked at places like that. Why not just have it be a buck per day

Well, it supposedly goes towards a fund for a picnic... I think it is extortion since I probably wouldn't attend... but I do like to wear jeans so I have started paying.

I wonder what they do with the money collected.

At my place of employment, it is business casual and jeans are only allowed on "special occasions." When they allow a jeans day, you have to pay $5 for the privilege but all the money received is donated to a charity.

Your right!... especially when you used to have 4 walls and a door that you could close. Now everyone is up in everyone's business.

Here's a game some coworkers and I used to play :X

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mafia_%28party_game)

We played this through email, with one "day" being a real day. During the day, there would be a lot of joking and smack talking :p There are 124143 variants, which is pretty cool.

Also, there are text based RTS games. I used to play Utopia (games.swirve.com/utopia) a ton, although you can't specifically play with coworkers :[ you get randomly assigned to a kingdom.

Anyone know of any turn based email based games that don't require going to a website or installing them on your computer?

Hey now, don't make fun of the 80s.

Let see: the birth of MTV (way back when they did play cool music videos), CNN (the first 24 hours cable news), Miami Vice, Top Gun movie, Gun Ho movie, the Goonies movie, leg warmer, big hair with big hairspray cans, Heavy Metal music and groups (remember Guns N' Roses?) and much much more.

Im just going to assume getting a real D&D/shadowrun/rifts game going would be out of the question?but if not that would be the best way to kill time.
