go to school full time and take loans.

That's not an option. I already have 4k in loans. I have to work! I refuse to graduate with 30k in unnecessary loans. Many people have worked their way through school and I can do it too.

you could do it that way, and then lose the best years of your life. i work in the summer and go to school when i am supposed to be going to school. you will regret this when you get older if you have the chance to do it another way. i am grateful of my situation and the fact that i can quit work during fall/sping. after college, all you have to look forward to is work until you get old...think about it.

it is easier to pay off loans with $20+ per hour than with half of that. School loan is lifetime investment. $30K is like a better new car...

My advice... stay away from low paying jobs, instead build future even if it hurts in the beginning. Because you're gonna work 40 more years, and think of earning potential with 4yr degree and without it. Avg engineer US salary is $73K.

Dude... I have bills now. I'd get criticized on this forum if i didn't have a job too. I've been working since I was 13. If I didnt work, I wouldn't know what to do with myself.

Go and apply for another job, get the interview and get a call back to work for the new company. If your current job values you enough, they will pay equal to or more than what you have been offered. If they don't, then leave.

they're a bunch of asshats (freaking giving you a 50 cent raise)

I once had a job at a place that did computer/networking work, primarily for small biz. Worked there full time for $8/hr (got billed for $75, if you can believe that). When I got married I asked for a raise. They offered 9. I said that wasn't gonna work. They did 10. I quit 2 months later. Now I get 13...being a CSR. Some employers are really really sad. The management here blows (good benefits though), so I'm looking around again. Daytona job market = teh suck

I say push a bit harder. If they think you're valuable and they're really in a jam, they'll be willing to come up a bit. The alternative is to be even more unstaffed and lose a lot more money in not being able to take care of customers then they'd lose in paying you more.

Since everyone is throwing stuff out ;x

At my old job throughout highschool i went 4 yrs without a raise. Then just about a month before i left for college, my boss upped me from $8/hr to $9/hr. (day care center)

Then I took time off work to go to school and such and back in Dec. started looking for an internship. I luckily found a paying internship in business in the NYC area. i know, can you believe it? ;x .. I made $8/hr from January till the other day. I knew I wanted to make more money cause I'd really like to start paying off a bit of my school loans (when all is said and done in a year, im only going to owe about 7500 in loans for all my education. not bad). So I've been sending my resume out and getting some decent offers. I got one job that paid $11/hr and worked that one as well as my internship... but I would have to pay my own taxes for the new job. that didnt sit well. so i upped and quit. then i thought about quitting my first internship and starting fresh. out of left field about a week ago while im just minding my own business doing my work one of my two "bosses" comes up to me and says "what are we paying you $8 an hour?" .. i just reply with "yes".. he asks me how would i feel about $9/hr. I say that'd be nice... and then he looks at me and goes "or $10... would $10 be better?".. at this point i kinda think he's messing with me cause they like to joke around a bit. so i said that $10 sounds better than $9. but since we're at it why not make it $11 or heck even $12?.. and in those few moments I went from $8/hr to $12/hr :D .. and im securing myself in and starting to get buddy buddy with the First VP of the branch and in a year when I graduate will more than likely (if i want it) have my first FT job!

1.5 raise/hr. But still it's not what I asked for.

I'd say take the olive branch and keep it awhile.
Be happy you even got a raise... especially since you havent finished your degree yet.
Most people without a degree dont even make 11.50 per hour without hard manual labor.

Not if you have a skill. Being able to repair computers is one such skill. For the work he's doing, he should be making a lot more.

I dont care what anyone thinks...
if 2 individuals
do the same job
at the same company
to the same effectiveness
with the same level of skills
and the same amount of experience
the guy with the degree is still worth 2x more than the guy who isnt.
