Work giving me a hard time for using general leave...

On July 2nd, my boss tells me "We need you to go on a trip to XXX for 2 weeks to setup a site and a make sure everything is running smoothly. Ohhh, You leave Monday." So I get 5 days notice that I'm going to be gone for two weeks... that leaves me 2 weeks behind on my home remodel, which outdoor projects (painting house, building deck, etc.) must be done during summer here in Alaska. Dates are July 7th - July 19th.

So, I'm ok with it. I book a room and go down. Half way through the trip, I call and tell my team lead that I'm going to take a week off when I get back to makeup for lost work time at my house. He says "Ok... we don't have anything going on so that should be ok. If I need you, I'll call you."

So I get back on the 19th and start working on my house. This week was supposed to be my leave week.... I get a call yesterday (Wednesday) and he says "Hey, so I covered your ass for taking leave this week with all the stuff going on, but you need to do this.... this... this.. We don't appreciate you giving us such little notice of you taking a whole week off."

Complete reversal from last week. So, I come in today because things are suppsoedly so busy. I talk to a coworker and she says she hasn't had anything to do in a week and hasn't even left her desk. It's dead here......

So, they send me away for two weeks and expect me to jump. I tell them I want to use my GodD$(* general leave to make up for not being home and they give me shit for it. WTF?

So, I'm thinking about talking to the site lead about this. It's a complete double standard.

What do you guys think?

Cliffnotes:
Work tells me they need me to go on a 2 week business trip with only 5 days notice.
I go on the trip and half way through call my boss to tell him that I'll need to take a week off using leave to make up for work time on my house remodel. He says ok.
During my leave, I get a call from team lead that basically contridicts his own statements last week and asks why I didn't give him more than a weeks notice for using leave.

Sounds like my place of employment actually. I get shit all the time but I can take it.

If you can't take it either man up or find a new job.

You shouldn't have gone in today. You had approved leave, so tell them you'll be back next Monday.

I would just ask, what is an appropriate amount of notice for taking a week of leave.

Then when they give you a number, turn it around and say you would like the same amount of notice when they need you to travel for that amount of time.

What is your companies policy on taking leave ... do you have to provide any notice period?

Basically their policy is they want general leave notice given as soon as possible.... with no set time limit. They send out a spread sheet every fews month telling people to write in when they want to take leave for the rest of the year.

I'm wondering why you are here posting instead of bringing this up with your boss.

You should explain to him exactly what you told us.

When I take leave I usually make it clear that I am flying out of the state and will not be able to be reached.
