Words hardly used

I've noticed that some words suddenly go out of style or come into use.

For instance, when I was in school, I rarely heard the word "pejorative" used. But now that word is badly overused on Wikipedia. It seems that every other article contains that word. It's the "in" thing to say. I think these trends are part of the sheep mentality- strive to conform. If someone else says it, say it also and you'll become part of their group.

Medical terms shouldn't count. They may not be used in the general public that much, but within a certain career, they can be used quite a bit. It would be like arguing using certain computer terms here versus out and about.
