I created a style that includes shading in the background. I assumed that this would work like a table would and the background would simply be behind any typed text, but for whatever reason whatever amount of text you have the shading extends across the entire line:

Does anyone know how I can have the background shading just be behind the text and not go across the entire line ? This has to be a part of the style, and I cannot use a text box/table.

THANKS!!

I do not know about being part of the style, but you should be able to highlight the text and then select the desired shading

Right, but if we have 10 places in a document that need shading, we can't really have users go into each place to manually apply shading. The style applied to those places should be able to do this.

I think I give up, I cannot find anything on this.
