Word just crashed, Can I get my document back?

check in the temp folders. if you're lucky it mite be there

and im not sure if 97 has that rescue document feature....

Look for a file starting with ~ in the same folder (or something like that...maybe has a .do~ extension...I forget ;) )

Its been years since I used Word 97, but I think it is set by default to not save recovery files. When it did, conjur was correct, the backup filenames usually started with a '~'. Do a search for "*.doc" and look for files made today.

Most Word crashes are due to one of two causes. The main cause is a virus which attacks Word itself. Check for viruses if you are lack with virus protection. The second is fixed with updated Office files. Make sure you go to windowsupdate.com and click Office Update. I don't know if Word 97 is supported anymore though.

They do. It's called the document recovery pane and is available in 2002 and 2003. Possibly even 2000.

Why can't users be smart enough to save their documents?
