Word 2000 problem

I'm having problems printing pictures with Word.
For convenience I "copied" them directly from a graphic's editing program
where I had edited them as .jpg's & set their width at about 7.8 inches.
I wanted each image to fill a regular sheet of paper.
They show up fine in the word document & in print preview, but when I print them
they appear as 1 little thumbnail on each page.

I don't think it would be the printer driver because I've tried 2 different printers &
a .pdf maker & the results are the same.
Should they be set to a specific PPI setting?
Would a .gif work better?

The file is 17mb with only 8 pictures so I don't believe the pictures are inserted as thumbnails.
Now if I try to copy the pictures from the document, they paste as a "scrap" object with no extension.
I figure this has something to do with OLE controls.😕

I tried finding an answer on Microsoft but no luck so far.
Thanks

edit: If it makes any difference, I'm running WinXP SP1, & the Word2000 installation does not have the service packs installed yet.

In the print preview it starts out showing them at 54% and I switch it to 100%
then the whole picture is shown on each page full size.

At 54%, the outline is full size, but only part of the picture shows in the outline.

Have you set the printer in the options to print out on A4?

It sounds like the printer may be set to print on business cards or avery labels

That's not the problem,
but your reply made me check the settings.
If I go under the printer settings & change the "printing preferences"
"resolution" it works better.
My images are bigger, but they're not centered over the captions & don't take up all the area.
Had to drop the resolution to 150dpi in the print settings.
