Woot! This UPS abused monitor rocks....

The last few months (and weeks to be exact) my old Delta DA995 tube based Gem* (some cheapo brand not the GemStar brand but oh well its called Gem with a star behind it) was starting to give some video problems.. the screen would flicker and stuff and finally it smelt like burned out electronics.. but it still worked.

I was getting pissed and scared, so I went over to my friend dan, who had a 19" micron trinitron montior that UPS had damaged when it was shipped to him by his friend. UPS paid the insurance on it, and he got himself a printer with half that money.

Anyway this monitor was collecting space, so I picked her up. Boy its amazing how clear it is..

The side of the plastic is cracked, a bit of discoloration on the upper left, lower right and upper right but otherwise it works fine (the discoloration is hardly noticiable.. the only reason i noticed it is when i did the nokia monitor test on it). And oh yeah it doesnt have the stand (moveable stand that it came with. The bottom of the monitor is broken.. so its right now sitting on the table but itself. Its lower than the other monitor because it has no stand, but hey.. it works right!

I love this.. its sooo clear.. 🙂

Oh well that gemstar served me well for over 4 years, I paid 350 for it back then at fry's (it was on sale.. for a 19" in 1999 it was a steal)..

TGG

I take new monitor over used/abused one any day. Why settle for crappy product, unless you are really, really poor, and thats the best you can do. I throw these kind of stuff away all the time, they're not worth it in the long run. You will get fed up with it sooner or later, anyway. It depends how much you can afford but heck, even poor fellow can get decent ones, new one for much, much less. I scored a 19' for 130 AR so it is IMO, pretty good but hell, their are better deal still.

Just don't complain when you post here again saying that your monitor exploded because the tube had a crack and now you have a big shard of glass in your eye. 🙂
