Woot. McDonalds is going to start accepting credit cards.

Customers will be able to start using plastic sometime next year, according to the paper. They will not be required to sign for the purchase, just like many gas stations which now allow credit and debit purchases without a signature. The paper said the relative low cost of a McDonald's meal makes the risk of stolen cards somewhat unlikely, that those using stolen cards are more likely to go to electronics stores and other higher-end retailers.

Seems like since fast food places are switching over to cc's, there's no need to carry cash anymore. Is there any businesses that doesn't accept credit cards still?

i hate those places with a "minimum purchase" or a surcharge. i mean, i can understand the rationale, but it is annoying to me, as a customer. oh well.

tehre are still some small businesses that don't take even visa

Great, now we will have obese people suing the credit card companies because they are too damn fat.

i think i heard of a case of somebody suing a credit card company because they were in debt... not sure though.

I guess they could claim that credit cards are additive.. it's like crack to some people. But to sue, that's just not right.

It's nice to find someone who understands the reason. When I worked at my parent's store I'd always get into arguments with people who wanted to use a credit card to buy something that cost $2.

How's the surcharge work? Is it based on a percentage? Min + percentage?

You should push that issue with them. Due to the fact it is illegal for them to put a minimum purchase to use a credit card. If you do not beleive me call your credit card company and ask them.

Burger King next to Virginia Tech used to accept credit card.
It was great to run to Burger King at 11pm, and get some grease food when I did not have any cash. =)

I have not been down in VA Tech for while so I am not sure they still accept cc.

If it's a convenience store I won't use my CC for less than $5. If it's a gas station I realize that the person behind the counter doesn't give a damn; I'll use CC for a $2 purchase. In Walmart I realize that the person gives even LESS Of a damn and I'll use my cc for a pack of gum.

I generally use my debit card for everything. I hate to have any amount of cash on me, hopefully this will eliminate the need for me to find an ATM before I can go get something to eat. On the other hand, I don't eat at McDonalds, so who knows when other places might start this as well.

Mcdonalds in Gainesville, FL (and i know of ones in south florida as well) have been accepting credit cards for nearly 2-3 years now.

You americans are weird. I went to KFC in Grand Forks, North Dakota and asked if they take MasterCard, or debit/interac/whatever you wanna call it, they only took Cash or Check. You can not find a fast food resauarant in Canada that will take check. dumb backwards yanks 😉 I work at Sears and we don't even take check. (cheque for us Canadians) canadian resaurants only take credit/debit/cash.

Same here in Suffolk County, NY.
Perhaps they were test markets.

Sweet! Get fat from Mcdonalds and in debt from your CC and sue on both! Awesome!

They're going to offer a McDonald's credit card that gives you a cashback bonus based on the number of calories purchased. If you join now, you not only get a great introductory APR, but also 100 Big 'n' Tasty Value Meal (not super-sized, though) points.

Don't get carried away. There is a big difference between "illegal" and not following their cardholding agreement
