Woot, just took the GMAT. (got my official scores back, woot!)

Congrats.

I thought about Master in Tax way back.

But I just knew if I had gone that route....they would've revamped and simplified the tax code right after I graduated.

:frown:

First of all, congrats again. That score is absolutely sick. Top 10 B-school for you for sure.

I do have one question, if you don't mind me asking you or anyone else, what did you guys score on your ACT or SAT? If I didn't score that well on the ACT||SAT, will I have no chance on the GMAT to get into a top 20-40 school?

I didn't study for either of these exams and got:

ACT 26
SAT 1220

I didn't take the ACT, but on the SAT, I got a 1450.

I took the Princeton Review course cuz all my friends did it, but if I hadn't, I'd probably have gotten in the 1280-1350 range.

AFAIK, ACT/SAT have ZERO factor in MBA admissions. They only care about ugrad+, unless you have some impressive achievement prior to ugrad that's even worth mentioning.

I knew that part, I just wondered if the scores correlated (sp?) IE = If you scored in the 50% of SAT, you will score below 50% on the GMAT.

I hope that's not the case. They're both standardized tests, so theoretically, you should do better wth your higher edu

But boy, if that were the case, since my score was ~90% of the full SAT score, I'd be damn happy if I got 90% of the full store on the GMAT, 720.

Of course they'll simplify it, which usually only adds another inch to the code's binding and makes us so much more indispensable. Now if we go a national sales tax, I'll choose another specialty. 😛

Scores look fishy. I got a 6 on my writing assessment which is 98%, not 96% like you state.

I think they calculate the percentile scores for each batch of test-takers, I *think*. I just know that my percentile ranking was 96.

you don't really need work exp. for law school... and you'll make up any debt you have quickly after you graduate, assuming you can get a decent job

if i were you, i'd go for some sort of joint degree program at a bschool/lawschool better than uw

I'm pondering that route as well. With my scores I know I'd get admitted but I definitely want to go to a better/different school than the UW. I've contemplated checking out NYU; my scores are competitive for their programs and I know a number of alumni who I could consult throughout the process.

DUDE are you coming straight out of undergrad??? You should seriously consider the school I'm at (Simon.) While we don't have a big name, we DID just jump 13 spots to claim #23 in the USNews rankings and we are known for our economics-based curriculum that produces some of the best finance-focused MBAs in the country.

But the big thing is that recently we've been taking in more students straight from undergrad without much work experience...its a big gamble the Dean is taking to get younger students with higher GMAT scores to pick Simon (they boost the rankings and they don't get accepted into Top 10 schools because of lack of experience.)

I've read of that trend lately, a lot of schools are seeing fewer applicants than the amount to which they're accustomed and so they're starting to take more applicants out of undergrad.

I can't believe you hardly studied and did so well! Congratulations!

I'm currently in the B-School hunt, and I'll take my GMAT sometime this summer. I'm using quite a few prep materials cuz I suck at these things, but it sucks even more that you can't give me any pointers on study materials.

What experience do you have with work? From what I've read and interviewed so far, it seems experience is the big kicker, even if the GMAT results are mediocre.

And whoever got the 690, that's awesome. I can't get anywhere that on the practice tests I've done.

I've worked for the school as an RA over the last three years (and will do a fourth one while getting my MPAcc Tax), I worked as an independent contractor for a startup firm this last fall, did some research in mathematics for a year two years ago, and I'll have an internship this summer with an accounting firm. I don't have any other full-time work experience.

My biggest piece of advice for studying is to get a full-night's rest (I made sure I got 9 full hours), get there early so you're not stressed (at least from that angle), and know what the sections will cover. Read over the example questions and the example essays to know what to shoot for as you're completing the test.

Apparently I missed the change...I really need to read that list of changed nicks, lol.

And congrats 🙂

😛 Yeah, I've been Orsorum for like two years now. Thanks! 🙂
