heh a town near us is having a gas price war. we went in to get some groceries and dinner and noticed gas was cheap.

we had about a 10 minute wait though. But was able to fill up for a good price.

man wish they would stay that low

The gas station a few blocks from my house is at $2.99/gal when everywhere in town (I live about 5 or 6 minutes out of town) is at $3.08 or $3.09. They're always cheaper than the stations in town which is nice. I don't understand how the prices can fluctuate so much... it's like the manager of the station picks a random number out of a hat and goes "Ok here's what we'll charge for gas today."
 
What sucks is the stations themselves make practically no profit on gas sales, especially if done with a ccard.

Their intention has always been to draw you into the store to purchase food, drink and lotto items that have a much larger profit margin.

Not always. Buddy of mine runs a shop, the building is owned by Sunoco, he has some sort of a rent/lease agreement on it, and owns all of the equipment. According to the franchise agreement that he has, he has to be open certain hours, sell gas, offer certain free services (tire/oil checks, free air, etc). He doesn't have any choice, and he doesn't have any products on sale other than oil and a small spinner of bags of chips, so he actually loses money with all of the gas sales.
 
I paid $2.80 a gallon this evening. 13.52 gallons for $38.00. I remember a few years ago when it was a dollar or less a gallon. I think the big oil companies are ripping people off. I spend close to $400.00 a month in gas. It really sucks. I am starting to look for work closer to home.

Its amazing how we are brain washed in thinking $2.59 is "cheap" gas.

So your "buddy" got sucked into a franchising deal where is doesn't own the shop, and doesn't take advantage of the highest profit margin in the gas station business.

It's coming down to around 2.80 around here, of course the next mention of a hurricane or if the president farts will bump the price over 3 bucks overnight.

Yeah, the labor on repairs, and AAA services. He makes loads of cash doing tows and jump-starts, he'd rather drop most of his repair services and get a third wrecker.
