congrats!

the amount of time it takes to plan a wedding really depends on when you want it, but most of the time it will be dictated by the availability of your venue. i'm sure if you wanted to you could get married in august, but many places are probably booked. talk to your fiance about what she wants to do, and talk to your parents about any wishes they might have (especially if they are contributing to the costs.)

Congratulations! I have a couple of friends that have been to Greece and they say it was amazing.

Edit: It can take months and months to plan a wedding. Are you planning on a small wedding or a large one?

Small one, I can't imagine over 70 people. Realistically I expect around 50ish. We are looking at next March tentatively as a date. We figure not to hot not to cold in Florida and ample time to save up money for wedding/honeymoon.

After that you have to tell us the circumstances.

Well being that we live in Tampa I figured I'd wait till we went somewhere different. We were up in Chicago visiting my sister. So the third night there I took her down Michigan Avenue just to do some shopping/sight seeing. At one end of the street was The Drake hotel. Toward the end of the afternoon we were down there. I took her to a really nice gazebo right across the street from Lake Michigan. It was really quiet there so I sat her down and proposed there. Right afterwards I took her across the street to The Drake. I had my sister take our luggage there while we were out during the day, so all of stuff was already there. I went to get a card for our room and it turns out we got an upgrade on the room. Executive suite baby! It was the room I originally wanted, but for $1300 a night I decided I couldn't afford it. Things worked out really nicely though. Took her up to the room, she was totally caught off guard. I had rose petals sprinkled from the doorway to the bed and pink tulips (her favorite flower) on the table. When she walked in she started crying. I knew then I had done a good job. So we went into the room, which had an amazing view of Lake Michigan and a pretty good view of the city too. I had her dress there and we got dressed up and went to dinner inside the hotel at the Drake Brothers restaurant. Came back after dinner and enjoyed each others company in the jacuzzi with some bubble bath stuff we bought earlier that day. Overall if was a very memorable experience in a magnificent hotel.

I decided on that hotel because it has so much history etc... I figured it'd be a place that was there for a long time to come that we could remember forever.

Tampa? Mandatory ATOT invite to the wedding :p

Just playing, congrats man, you two make a good looking couple.

Thanks, she makes me look a lot better than I do alone :p

As for the wedding, I'm going to have a hard time choosing a best man. Maybe I should have an ATOT best man contest!

Now, you DO realize that marriage is when the minister asks her, "Do you?", and she says yes; then he turns to you and asks, "Do you?", and you say yes.......and then she says, "Not any more, you don't!! Not without asking me first!!!"

I'd definitely suggest Australia for a honeymoon. It's not likely you'd end up going there otherwise, you don't have to learn the language (or go walking around, pointing at words in your English-Whatever dictionary to get your point across), and the money exchange isn't too horribly bad (not like you're probably going to get slammed with the Euro). The east coast is the most visited (3 large cities to choose from), but the west coast has it's attraction as well, and would be worth visiting as well. Plus, of all the places I've visited (back in my youth, while doing 3 overseas deployments in the navy), Australia is the one place I decided I could live, if I didn't want to live in the USA anymore. :)

So far as wedding planning goes, I'm sure you realize that it takes a guy 20 minutes to plan a wedding, while a woman isn't done planning it until she's saying "I do".

It took me and my wife around 5 months to plan our wedding because you have to give family time to respond. If the time of year for you honeymoon is right you can?t beat southern Germany! I was stationed there for 5 years and can tell you Salzburg, Garmisch are unbelievable! You could also skip into Austria and Switzerland on your visit.

Edit:) GRATZ!

trust me, it's not up to you; in fact you don't get to decide anything any longer.

we planned on a very small wedding and ended having people fly in from everywhere, some were parental friends who we didn't even know.

We won't be having any of that. We are both very close with our immediate families. Both our immediate families live in town, which is nice. Few brothers/sisters/uncles/aunts from out of town, but not a whole lot. Couple good close friends, not all our co-workers and their brothers. It should be small.

when are you planning on doing the wedding. If more than a couple years away it makes no sense to plan it all out now.

Hopefully you aren't doing something like a 7 year engagement prior to both you entering college then graduate...I know a couple of those stories.

Heh, your fiancee looks like a girl I knew in grad school--she's not from New York, is she?
