I guess your sarcasm meter's broken. I was trying to point out that only 12 applied to what seems to be the opportunity of a life time.

Your sarcastic comment was based on faulty logic, so it's not surprising that an intelligent person wouldn't get it. This program has an acceptance rate that isn't much higher than MIT's. But MIT is one of the best colleges in the country. Not many people apply to MIT, because most know they won't be accepted.

MIT's acceptance rate is closer to 10% instead of 33%

When I was looking at colleges it was 20%. They accepted about 4000 per year out of 20,000.

i am pretty sure more than 20,000 people apply to MIT every year.

My memory isn't perfect, apparently only about 10,000 apply:
http://web.mit.edu/ir/cds/2005/c.html
And the acceptance rate is about 15% now.

Man, are you always a dick? or just on the internet. The OP did not mention only a handful can apply in the first place. He made a big deal out of 4 out of 12, so I made a bad joke. Why don't get get that stick outta your ass.

You're trying to rain on the kid's parade. That's not necessary, and it's not cool. So expect to be called out for it.

Maybe you should go...wait

Go man!!! It will be fun. I did a little two week program at WPI, it was nothing compared to that, but it was fun as hell and gave me some good experiences and some friends that I somehow managed to carry onto college even though I didn't go to that university.

And also, that 33% probably means he is a good student.... how many high school students would sign up voluntarily for summer school???? I am willing to assume that it is mostly distinguished and driven students and does not include your average guy who applies to MIT on a whim because it is famous.

I did a summer National Science Foundation program at OU back in the day. It was absolutely one of the high points of my life!

We studied ALGOL and PASCAL.

So did I, although I think my day was much farther back than yours. Great time!

Congrats to Joe for getting in to the program he wants!
