🙂 Yea Man, I am psyched, I just picked up an Intel DG33FBC mobo (1333 fsb, G33 chipset) a E6550 and 1 GB of 533mhz ram for $150 with free shipping from ebay. I am thinking I can get another core 2 duo system built for less than $400.

Now I just need:

A hard drive - not something I usually purchase used for obvious potential failure reasons

A video card - I'm a gamer, the integrated video aint gonna cut it

A DVD drive - many to choose from new from newegg under $30

A case - I might rebuild a Sempron 3000+ system I have on a NF2 mobo - anyone intersted in my spare parts?

A media reader - $19.99 from microcenter for a 52 in 1

So to come in under $400, assuming I re-use my case and windows XP pro license, I have $200 to spend on a hard drive and video card. Given that 8800gts 320MB can be had for around $100 and a SATAii hard drive can be had for $60 with shipping (or even less), I might upgrade also to 2GB of ddr800 ram.

Anyone have any thoughts on how to complete this build on the uber cheap?

AAAK! I need a power supply too. Hmm, how can I avoid getting burned with only $40 to spend on a power supply? I just hate cheap power. It is my goal to beat the system below in both price and performance if possible. I want it to get a higher PCmark06 score than this machine:

I know the chipset is a great start to beating this machine. The G33 performs just like the P35 when you don't use the integrated graphics. That should be faster than 945 chipset on the refrence machine.

The processor, while .33 Ghz slower, does have the higher FSB speed of 1333. Does anyone think that will cover the .33 difference?

Do you think the 8800gts 320mb (any) will outperform the Chaintech 9600gt?

If I don't go with 2GB of memory will I be doomed to failure? Is upgrading this system from 533 mhz memory to 800Mhz memory going to make that much of a difference?

Does anyone want to buy a cheap computer ( or 2) when I am done 🙂 I have too many of these things now and I can't stop building them HELP!!!! 😱

Yowza, newegg just sent me a email with an 8800gs 384mb for $65 after rebate. I wonder if it will do the job?

I went to Microcenter in Westbury, New York today and rummaged through their bargain bins. I picked up a couple of great scores. The system has shaped up as follows:

Motherboard Intel DG33FBC - $60.00 - ebay
Processor Intel E6550 - $80.00 - ebay
Memory Unknown 1 GB DDR2 533 - $10.00 - ebay
Hard Drive Seagate 160GB SATAII - $35.96 - Microcenter refurb
DVD Burner Samsung 20X - $23.96 - Microcenter refurb
Media Reader Logisys 52 in 1 - $14.99 - new microcenter
Power Supply Xion 630W - $49.99 - new microcenter
Tax so far - $10.78 - Thanks NYS

Total - $288.68

Left - $121.32

Need

Video Card
Case
XP Pro

Unless I can get a free case with XP sticker from someone's old celeron 533 they upgraded and threw away, I am going to go over budget on this build.

Aren't there any other fans of cheapo high performance PC builds out there with some ideas?
