Woot, got a new job.

So I was forwarded an email last week, saying that a company was looking for two paid interns, working for a small company here in VT, that build computers using mini-ITX mobo's. I am geting pretty sick of retail. They are requesting a resume, and cover letter, I just have no clue what to say.

-Geting B.A. in CS in 06
-Worked in fast foot 99-01
-Worked at Staples 01-present
-Looking for a real job.

Edit: WHOOOOOOO. They called me back and i have an interview wednesday. The lady/co-owner sounded really nice and asked all the right questions, to me, it sounds like I have the job. Sweeeet.

a cover letter should explain what you bring to them and how you can help them. don't just regugitate your resume, they already have that. a good one should catch the attention of whoever reads it. find out who is going to read it and address it to them. if you have anything in common with them, you may want to mention it (for exp, if i find a lawyer who went to UH i mention that i'm a law student at UH)

I was 15 at the time, I was just trying to say that I am a hard worker and have customer service skills.

mchammer187: Retail is ok, but this is more of what I am interested in. I plan on even still working at Staples maybe saturday mornings.

I just never got around to it / didn't have the time. Went in for the interview today, it went pretty well, lasted about 2 hours. They company has 8 employees, and they all seemed nice. LOTS OF GOODIES THERE. The owner said he was interviewing another person, BUT that they were probaly going to split the job up between both of us. He said he would call me within the next couple of days.

I started today and it was pretty cool. Everyone there knows there stuff, very nice people. They started me off building one of there Serener mini ITX computers and it took me a couple hours puting it together. They did say those are the trickest, and the AWESOME Hush Pc's were much easier. I would put a plug in for these guys but i am not sure if its allowed, anyway PM me if you guys have any miniITX needs.

Its more than just puting computers together. The mini ITX format is completely new to me, and I learned ALOT today about fanless computing. You guys make in sound like some sort of sweatshop . This company has two guys that build, one of which is leaving this week. They needed someone to give the other guy a had building because they have some large orders coming in.

Its more than just puting computers together. The mini ITX format is completely new to me, and I learned ALOT today about fanless computing. You guys make in sound like some sort of sweatshop . Well all you've told us about so far is building computers. So what will you actually be doing that's Comp Sci. oriented?

TO EVERYONE:

1. I am getting my degree for free. Zip, zero, nada. I picked CS because it interested me. I know this isn't directly related, but I could care less as long as it pays the bills and I have potiental to move up in the company. I will do tech support / phone orders at some point.

2. After 3.91 years at Staples (I saw a printout yesterday) I gained $1.14. This company is paying me $11 an hour which is fine, I didn't expect more. I haven't quit Staples yet and plan on working sundays at least until school starts.

3. I highly doubt a monkey could put these computers together. There were numerous tricks that I learned today.

No...if you are just putting stuff together, it's just labor. I agree that this oculd be a leraning experience, but if they will only let you just build teh stuff, what exactly are you going to learn that is useful?

They build / test / support / answer questions. The company is like this, HR person, website person, shipping guy, owner, marketing, tech support / phone sales / builders. My goal is to stay until I get my degree and if it works out they will offer me a full time salaried job. If I hate it or not enough pay, i will take that degree and get out of Vermont.

Well, i guess if it works for you, it works. That just seems to be a very week goal to strive for. You are a CS major I am an Engineering major, so i guess that may have something to do with how we see it. although I have always thought they could be one and the same.....
