If you had musicbrainz, you would cry once you realize how much time you wasted using an inferior program. I was able to sort and rename 800mp3's (including ID3 tags) in about 2-3 hours

yes, musicbrainz does it in 10 minutes if you don't care much for accuracy, or 2-3 hours to do a whole collection.

Or in my case, it renamed/retagged half of my 2500 songs wrong, so I will have to spend a good couple of weeks worth of evenings figuring out what all the songs are, and renaming/retagging them correctly.

Never again am I using MusicBrainz, or am I going to recommend anyone use it :disgust:

After hearing how these proggies are buggering your collections I'm glad I did it manually.

no problems here. I used ID3-TagIt and tagged around 15gigs (about 3500 songs) in two nights of work (a hour or two per night tops).

It depends what your collection is like. My files weren't named consistently, so no luck there, but since 95%+ of my collection was full CDs, the imdb query tool was invaluable.

Not entirely true. I have been ripping some old vinyl, no automatic tags there and since I have purchased the music I can leaglly copy it to any form.

Hey guys what methods do you use for archiving your cd collections. I find EAC + LAME using the alt-standard preset gives me identical sounding mp3's.

EAC - test and copy -- if the crcs don't match, i rerip the track
MPC - q7 xlevel
APE for archiving the rips

[rebutting.the.devils.advocate]Lets say he and I legally purchased all the music but didnt tag them when we ripped them. We'd still have to manually correct? So lets just say I did that [/rebutting.the.devils.advocate]
Actually you would simply reencode the mp3s with the latest version of Lame rather than take the time to fill in all the tag info by hand......PIRATE!!!!

Ummm.... Read my posts. I DIDNT tag them by hand I used Tag&rename with CDDB database. One click, two click, 3 click...done. I never touched the keyboard. Lets just say I did that. Ok Matie? :D
You can say that all you want Matie.....but we know the source of your music, but I'm just messing with you because not all of my music has been purchased either.
teef!
