My sister's boyfriend borrowed me the DVD set. Wasn't half bad. Battle of the Bulge was my favorite part of the series. Man they went through hell!

My grandfather fought in the Battle of the Bulge. My family still has the Luger sidearm he took from a captured German officer. :D

HBO series are generally excellent but I own many of the good ones (Band of Brothers, Pacific, Rome, etc) on blu ray already. I wish they would've just announced HBOGo on the FireTV was available so I'd have an excuse to buy one. :D

That's cool! My grandfather was a surgeon in WWII and was on a hospital ship and stationed in London. We have his uniform, whistle when he was a staff sergeant and scalpel. Believe it or not he got hit in the head from a brick while in London from a buzz bomb that came crashing in. The Germans were constantly flying those into England then along came the V2. Smart SOBs the Germans were.

One of my favorite parts of Band of Brothers were the anecdotes the real vets told at the beginning of each episode. Sadly, I believe all of them have passed since the series originally aired in 2001.

Wish we got Amazon instant streaming. No idea why they haven't rolled it out in Canada yet. Guess the licensing is too much of a hassle.

Damn... available content is gradually outpacing my available time.

Thinking it is time for another insomniac work phase so I can stream all of these, at least in the background, over the course of a couple of months.

I am going with The Wire first.

Amazon should offer their streaming service per month and disconnect it from Prime. But I guess for now atleast the tv content is mainly to entice people to have prime so they shop more at amazon

By end of summer, according to HBO. They announced it when they announced the deal for Prime.

Boardwalk Empire, only season 1 is available for prime users. A lot of the stuff is like that, some seasons on prime, some you get to pay for or wait until they become available for prime users in a year or two, or three.

And of course, no Game of Thrones.

Basically, the rule of the thumb for HBO on Amazon prime is, if the the show wrapped up several years ago and was any good, you probably have already watched it once or twice through. If you haven't, it is probably a newer show and all the seasons aren't available on prime, if at all.

I am not sure of the exact model, but I saw other WW2-era Lugers that looked similar at a gun show last year and they were going for around $3K. I was kind of surprised because I thought it would be a little more valuable but on the other hand, millions were made and guns last forever. When I looked at my dad's gun collection a couple of years ago, he had shotguns and rifles from the 1880s which looked like they were in excellent condition so I suppose this gun is a "youngster."

Of course, to me, it is far more valuable since it is a piece of history and the fact that my grandfather took it from someone he captured. I'm obsessed with WW2 and wish I would've spoken to my grandfather more about it. He died when I was 14 and unfortunately we weren't very close.

One of my favorite parts of Band of Brothers were the anecdotes the real vets told at the beginning of each episode. Sadly, I believe all of them have passed since the series originally aired in 2001.

I believe you're correct. AFAIK, the last of the major stars in the series, Bill Guarnere, died in March.

Yeah, and FYI guys -- if you're a Prime member, Amazon is letting you try the FireTV risk free for 30 days with free return shipping if you don't want to keep it. If you keep it, they bill you $99 at the end of the 30 day window. I went ahead and ordered one yesterday.
