It's the longest airliner ever until the extended Boeing 747-800 comes out. It is pretty big, it carries about as many people as a 747 when configured for 3 class seating (380 v.s. ~415 for 747s). As a comparison, the 4 engines on a 340-600 are just about identical in thrust to the 4 on a 747-400 (the 747 being ~5-8% more powerful).
These are big planes and the fact it was totaled with 0 hours of airtime, no matter the reason, is a big deal. I'm sure ADAT, Airbus nor Etihad are happy about what happened considering how long it takes to build one of these things.

The 340-600 is the special extended body and higher fuel capacity version for high passenger count long haul international flights.
