Here is a good article for the x800GT vs. the 6600 GT take a look at this.Text

Also take a look at the benchmarks like I said....the x800pro is only coming in slightly higher then the 6800 128 MB vanilla card, it's not worth it!!!!

Like I told the OP, go with the x800xl if you have the money, if not go with the x800GT.

Dude the OP already said he doesn't want to overclock if you read that. I was giving him some advice on trying to build the rig to last him for a while, in which case I would advise 2x1GB over 1GB of expensive stuff anyday of the week. He doesn't need to go out and spend a ton of money for only 1GB of memory for what he is using the machine for.

It would be a waste to buy expensive stuff, pluss the Corsair Value Select will overclock pretty well anyway if he wanted to do so in the future.

Hey man, that system is looking pretty good. You can save 40 bucks by getting a amd 3000+ instead of 3200, they are about the same and the 3000+ is a good ocer.

Also, dont get a Maxtor HDD. THey have been very unreliable as of late. Get seagate or WD, my personal choice is WD. YOu can get a 320g sata WD drive for like 130 bucks at Monarch Computer.

More like 256MB 6800GT... check your benches, and for only 40-50$ more than the GT its a great deal, plus they have a lot of headroom for overclocking.

I agree with this too. In Battlefield2 2gb-vs-1gb makes a huge difference and in the near future I see this being the case of a lot more games.

I did check my benches, just cause you have the x800pro don't go recomending it to others if it doesn't suit their needs.

He should really go with the x800GT for now, you can pick up that card for like $150 or less. Then when the time comes in a year or so, go out and buy one of the next gen cards for a cheaper price (7800gtx or 1800xl).

the x800pro is still like $220 at the least for a new one, it's just not worth it now for him!!!

Don't try and give me advice dude, you are the one who recomended going with a Refurbished card....ROFL

POWERCOLOR R43CA-GD3D Radeon X800GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI-E 169.00
my card was 15$ more shipped so I figued it would be helpfull to mention to him that, but don't we all really just recommend what we try? He can do w/e he wants, I myself did and would still go with the x800pro refurbished

You can get Pro for little-of-nothing more, I payed 185$ for mine shipped. Overclock it and get another year out of it.

Yea my cards refurbished, laugh at me dork. But I still enjoy the extra 40$ I saved for a card that clocks over x800XTPE specs.

Hey it's cool, to each his own. I would watch calling me a dork!!!!

I just am not a big fan of Refurbished products, I think it's taking a huge risk. I hope your risk pays off for you, more power to you if it does, just don't get mad when that overclock you have get's too hot and cooks the card, you can't RMA something that doesn't have a good warranty like Refurbished JUNK.

I'm really just interested in the benches saying X800pro is like a 128MB vanilla 6800

Oh my I am done with you.

I can see that you are also one of those that bought an SLI motherboard with an ATI card...yeah that makes alot of sense.

Have fun with your x800pro, I guess we will have to agree to disagree. Please just let this die now that I have said that, we obviously disagree and it really comes down to what the OP wants to get for his rig. He probably isn't even looking in his own thread anymore since it has now turned into a flame flest.

Have a good day.....Later.

Look, since he's not gaming much, an expensive video card would be pretty useless. The X800GT is good enough. I recommend getting the 3700+, since the extra cache would probably give him a bigger performance increase than an X800XL in AoE and WoW, which are not very graphics-intensive games. 2GB RAM helps for MMORPG's, and BF2/F.E.A.R. suck with 1GB, so 2GB value RAM is great. I'd get a Cooler Master Centurion case for ~$50, but that's just my personal preference, since I think the Antec Solution looks kinda ugly.
