Well seeing as i paid for OSX license when getting an ibook while ago,
i dont feel too bad running 10.4 on my P4 machine...

I have to say, though, OSX is killer on this harware. I mean it's running circles over the ibook I had - no slowdowns what so ever and all of my hardware is supported. Plus the goofy little things that apple makes (expose, dashboard etc.) really help the usability.

what type of hardware are you currently running now anyway? I'll probably give it a shot just for fun, but I'm wondering if I can really use it as a day-in/day-out OS.

p4 3.0 / gig of ram and intel GMA graphics (basically exactly what the devel macs are).
I built the box specifically for that purpose

Mac OS X 10.4.2 DTK

Apple has released the first major update for developers working on its Intel-based Transition Kits. Mac OS X 10.4.2 build 8B1072 is a 2.7GB download that reinstalls the entire system and brings the Intel version of Mac OS X up to speed with the Mac version.

The new build is also said to address recent successful attempts by savvy tinkerers who have managed to install pirated copies of the original DTK version of Mac OS X on non-Apple PCs. Universal binaries built with Xcode 2.2 and the new copy of Mac OS X 10.4.2 for Intel will also fail to run on systems running the older version of the operating system.

Is this Apple's first step in entering their OS into the x86 market, and thus competing head-to-head with Windows? I think so, or at least think it should be.

give me one reason why windows is superior to osx

it has an infinitly larger number of better programs that work with it
its easier to use
faster (tho just based on the speed on OSX on a Mac)

thats 3

now tell me why OSX is better then all according to you

First of all, mass adoption doesn't make windows a superior OS. Software distribution doesn't make the actuall OS better in any way.

I don't see how windows is easier to use than OSX .... as far as general functionality goes, they're just about the same. OSX tends to have an edge over windows as far as usability goes - drag and drop works in everything, expose is really neat once you get used to using it, software managment is drag and drop.

The main advatage is in terms of security - user/permission based filesystem and process handling and you get all the unix you'd ever need. Plus native port of an X server, so you can do x forwarding and/or run opensource apps.

most of what you just said is usefull to about 3% of the computer user population
