wohooooooo parents just said yes of me gettin a new car..... it is a graduation gift for me, graduating from college........

I'm thinking along the lines of bmw 325, or audi a4...... (around $40k ish) any ideas folks??? (pliz dont mention the g35, don't like the model)

errrrr..... I'm an international student, and I am thinking of going to grad school or get a job afterwards, eventually I will be able to support myself. IMO 40k for a car is not too much considering that my parents paid that much for tuition fee and living cost for a year....

What are your parents, Arab Royalty? 40k is a VERY expensive car whether you are still in college or ready to retire and buy your dream car. Not saying I wouldn't love for my parents to buy me a 40k car anytime.

I can't believe you said having your parents buy a 40k car isn't too much to ask. Do they drive Ferrari's?

the vette is out for me, coz its VERY impractical to use daily and to carry stuff....... and I dont like to race anyways, prefer more luxury to sport (and the insurance is gonna be hell)

the 330 is too much dough for me, I think 325 should be enough

I like the s4, but the model is the old one, and I'm not much into racing

I'm not sure I follow the logic of your parents paid $40k for one year of school so $40k budget for a car from them is not too much. I believe a majority of parents would say "I spent $40k/year to send your ass to school, you can buy your own damn car for $40k, tough guy!"

I scholarshipped my way through school and my parents only had to pay a couple thousand. The agreement was that if I got a scholarship, I got a car. It was a $2000 car. I thought I was damn lucky.

So not only did they pay for college (at least part of it) they are buying an expensive car for you before you even get a job?

Damn, my friends in college who were forced to get emergency loans from the school credit union just to pay rent (and yes they did have jobs and did not have flashy cars/lifestyles) would be proud.

hmm to put things into perspective:
a car in my home country costs twice as much, so a honda will cost around 40k, while a bimmer costs 80k,
so buyin a bimmer here in the states is just like buying a honda.
and no my parents dont drive ferraris, they just have one bimmer and one honda

How about getting a Nissan 300ZX and investing the other 10 grand? Or, if you need cargo space, get a Maxima and invest the other $20 thou.

Sorry, but some of the people here like those cars but can't afford them. And here you are, right out of college, getting them for free.

What did you expect?
 
Well... i'm almost in the same situation... except I just graduated and I bought my own A4... So... anyway congrats! 😉. Also, i'd reccomend the Audi (but hell i'm an audi slut now adays) so take that w/ a grain fo salt. Also, I see all these people talk about the 3 series Beemer and how sweet of a car it is w/ its awsome I6... but most of the beemers I see are 325/3's w/ the smaller 6 that can't even compare w/ the 330. Anyway, its just something i noticed. Also, the A4 is a bit cheaper and much better looking IMHO. You also wont be seing your car on every corner.

I've got a silver 02' A4 3.0q and couldnt be happier... I'm not saying the BMW isn't nice... it is very nice... i just think that style wise the A4 is in a different class.
 
heh, welcome to AT. I posted awhile back about my parents considering buying me a new accord and got flamed so bad i wanted to cry (not really but it didnt' make me jump for joy either). Ur getting a 40k college and a 40k beemer, and still not getting flamed as bad as me (just cuz i'm a high schooler 🙁) Not that i'm not jealous of others either, guy at my school's dad is high on Washington Mutuals payroll, dad drives a Benz 55AMG (if u know what it is... oh god) and after getting like a 2.0 GPA his parents punished him by getting him a loaded '02 IS300
