Oh yeah baby 🙂 Got me a 9700 for $143 😀

Oh and for those who dont know (and it seems most dont know) the mod works on the black pcb too as long as it has the L Shaped Ram.

It doesnt necessarily have to be the Red L Shaped PCB, it can be black too.

My 3dmark jumped from 2800 to 4400!! xcouldnt be happier 🙂

I had pretty much the same impression when I flashed my 9800np to 9800p. My 3dmark03 went up 800 points using the same clock speeds (via powerstrip).

I ordered mine in early January from allstarshop for $157, shortly after the news came out. Fortunately the software hack came to light in time to prevent me from trying to solder it which was the original method. Best deal evar!

The 9500 mod is where you use software to enable the other 4 pipes. Others probably know a lot more about it.

The pencil trick was where you use graphite to connect all 5 pairs of L1 bridges on the thunderbird, and then you could set any multiplier you wanted to use via the bios.

would this mean that the 9500 modded would perform the same as a 9700?? Or does it just mean that 8 pipelines are enabled but the card will still be slower than a 9700?
Also, how do you think the modded 9500 would compare to a 9600pro??

thanks

Sorry, i forgot to ask another question. By modding the 9500 to 8 pipelines, would this cause increased heat in the video card(like overclocking)?

thank you

No because the 9500 with a L shaped mem pattern is basically a 9700 Pro with it's pipelines knocked out..

The mod enables them, thus your 9700

People should note that this can also be done on the 9800se if it has the L shaped memory. But success is uncertain.

The thing you have to watch for with the 9500>9700 mod is some cards will have artifacts, the "checkerboard effect", and there isn't any way to tell if your card will have them until you try it. It's a bit of a gamble, but definitely worth it if you're willing to take the risk.

It doesn't work with all L shaped ones?
