Here's the message.
Dear Road Runner Customer,

We're writing to let you know that we've made exciting enhancements to your Road Runner High Speed Online service!

We thought 3 Mbps (megabits per second) was fast, but we've made it even faster. We have upgraded your service at no additional charge to you! You can now reach download speeds of up to 5 Mbps. Download files over 100 times faster than dial-up and up to three times as fast as standard DSL. Now that's fast! This dose of lightning lets you surf the web, download music and photos, and receive email attachments faster than ever before.

We hope you enjoy your enhanced Road Runner service, and thank you for making your house a bright house.

Sincerely,

Bright House Networks Customer Service

Did anyone else using RR get one?

And they just gave you this for free? Did you do anything to prompt this? I'd like to know so I can do the same with my RR!!!

How about a screenshot from DSL Reports..

Is it a steady 5mbps?

Cox upped mine to 4 and I love them for it.

😛

Time Warner announced over a month ago that they were boosting speeds to all their subscribers to 5mbps, starting this past December in NY, and for the rest of the country through January. This isn't news.

Wasn't aware of that. Thanks for the info!

I'm in NY and I just ran a test at DSLreports.com here are my results. No 5mb/sec here

Your download speed : 4044384 bps, or 3949 kbps.
A 493.6 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 286884 bps, or 280 kbps.

I have Adelphia and am in VA. I have 2mb down 256k up.

Pretty nice, but now that you guys mention all this i hope we get an upgrade soon.

Dang, do you guys really use that much bandwidth? To me, it seems like it's a game right now between the cable companies..."Who's got the bigger snake in their trousers" type of game. 😛

Either way, at least you're not all on dialup. 😀 I'm still pluggin' away at the CableOne 1.5Mbps... 😉

Adelphia still hasn't upgraded you?! They bumped me to 3000/256 along time ago. And I am in one of the last places in our area to get the cable in the first place.

256 is considered an upgrade to a lot of people. It was for me anways. Adelphia was originally 128 up and the most I could ever get was about 118 up. Not awful but not great

12-16 Mbps here... though I live in graduate student housing so we have campus internet. Fastest download I have ever achieved was 26Mbps from battlefield 1942's homepage getting a patch and some maps... that was smoking!

As for RR, my relatives in Cali get 5Mbps and have had that for about 6 monthes now, they did not receive any letter, just one day it was faster
