Woohoo! WineX 2.0 is released!

The main reason I'm running windows is for the apps and games I have. I've never tried Wine.

How is the compatibility and performance?

If my games would run and not take a performance hit, I might consider ditching MS(although I have to admit, XP is kinda cool) and letting RedHat 7.2 have the whole drive instead of it's little 3GB partition.

Hehehehehehehehe........My D2-LoD screenshots!! WineX even placed the Icon for D2-LoD on the desktop for me. 😀

They got BattleNet and D2-Lod working !! Hell when I logged in the game went ahead and downloaded the lastest patch for the game and installed it without a hitch !! 😀 /Me is HAPPY !!!

P.S. Here's a DoD 2.0 screeni I just took !! Menu lag in HL has been drasticlly reduced to a very light amount !! DoD 2.0 rocks under WineX 2.0 !!! 😀

Has anyone tried any other Windows applications with Wine 2.0? I am curious to find out how Wine 2.0 works with other software.

Heh. it's only $5 for a month subscription. Using CVS it's free. 🙂

I haven't used WineX 2.0 enough to say. However, I did get Macromedia Flash 5 and Dreamweaver 4 running under WineX 1.3.

THIS is like the same thing for Mac right? I've been trying to figure out if it's a software DirectX emulator or an OpenGL wrapper or something that ports DirectX code to something Mac-native or something that still requires DirectX hardware in a Mac system. They market it to game developers for porting their games instantly, but they don't ever say it's a driver for MacOS or provide any download for MacOS users. Aparantly, there's already a game released using the technology: Wipeout 2097

BTW, I'm not a Mac user... I'm just interested...

I don't believe it's the same type of thing. I believe WineX is a derivate of Wine. They've just added more features and tweaks to allow Windows games and sometimes applications to work in Linux. Like most people say, it's an emulator that's not really an emulator. 😛

Edit: I got Madden 2k2 to work last night! Sweet! The sound is kinda effed up, but the game runs perfectly!

EHobaX: In the same way, the Macintosh technology claims it supports the DirectX API. Wine works by reverse engineering and simulation of the Windows Operating Environment, and I believe that's what this attempts to do with the DX API. But Wine of course, runs Windows software in software mode (There's no such thing as an OpenGL accellerated OfficeXP is there?). This however, claims no speed loss in most Direct3D games ported using it, therefore it MUST be hardware accellerated somehow, right?

WineX supports 3d acceleration through hardware and software AFAIK
