Nope, sorry! :D This thing is sold out everywhere, I got it from some pro shop out of North Carolina. I can't wait, this should allow me get get some uber-wide photos on my D1. Currently my widest lens is a 24mm (36mm on the D1) so going from that to the 18-36mm on this new lens should be awesome! :)

I suddenly feel a lot less crazy for having recently dropped $2,000+ on a new bicycle. :D

Atlanta. Just look for the house with the bike out front with the half-starved pit bull/wolf mix tied to it. :D

This lens wouldn't even work on a film camera anyway. It doesn't cover the full frame as I understand it. It's Nikon's new DX line which are digital specific.

why so expensive?

1. There's nothing like it in the market today
2. First reviews indicate steller sharpness and flare resistance. Optically, this lens appears to be superb. Quite a feat considering the optical range of the zoom and how wide it is. I've heard some bitching about it being so expensive for a f4 lens but I dont think it's possible for them to have made a (practical) lens in this range at 2.8. The front element is already 77mm, bumping it up to 2.8 would make the lens so big that it would look like supertelephotos you see on the sidelines at sports games.
3. It's Nikon. :/

It works on film cameras...but with severe vignetting from the 12-18mm portion of the zoom. Beyond that it's OK I hear, but its optically designed for the D series of digicams.

Thanks for clearing that up but you would have to be crazy to drop $1200 on a 12-24mm lens in order to use only the 19-24mm range. There are better options out there.

Actually, I meant better WA lenses to choose from for a film camera. But your right, the 1DS is the current king of the hill when it comes to digital cameras. Too bad it costs $8k. If Nikon would put up some competition, we could get the prices to come down to reality sooner rather than later.
