I'm 18, incoming freshman to USF (South Florida). I've been in tampa for over 2 months now, and I had a job serving. The crappy thing was that it was at LoneStar SteakHouse which gets ZERO CU$TOMER$!!!! So with tips I was making just about $5.15/hour, a.k.a. minimum wage. So I dropped that like a hot tomato and tried a month-long aplication process at Circuit City where I was pretty much guaranteed a job. The managers loved me, and I had a friend that worked Customer Service. Well, during this 3 week long process, that friend turned out to be a total cawk and must have told them not to hire me for some reason because I called and they said that they already went with other aplicants (as$monkeys).

So 3 days later I've already got a job lined up and I'm starting this Monday! Yipee! No more living off of the nice letters that my mom sends me from New Orleans (Don't you like those letters that contains checks?:D:D).

So where am I working? FireHouse Subs. :) Yeah, it's not the best job, but when you need money and you're living off your mommy, it's fantastic to know that you'll be able to take care of yourself!

So be happy for me! I am!

Lol, broohaha $6.00/Hr is what they start at but they already told me that they are looking for some ast. manager positions and also shift managers (which I'd probably go for). So it has some headroom, :)!

Hahahahahahaha, USF? What, do you want to go to Busch Gardens everyday?

I'm pretty surprised at the thing with Lonestar Steakhouse, especially considering you're in a big city like tampa. I'm in Melbourne/Palm Bay (drive east for 3 hours until you hit the east coast), and my friends easily make a helluva lot more at Outback, doing easier jobs like bussing or hosting there. Firehouse Subs is a respectable place to work, but i'd try and find a better serving job, you'd make a helluva lot more money. Hell, you'd probably make more money starting off as a busser and moving up to server.

But anyways, i'm done with the florida job advice.

dude, mango, if you have any computer skills whatsoever, go to a temp agency and do some ms word/ms excel/ms access tests with them and they'll place you at some nice, air-conditioned office where you'll be making 10 dollars an hour. have you ever thought of going that route?

Actually, I haven't. I had no clue that I could do such things. Thanks for the advise, I'll look into it :) Where can I find agencies like that, though? I just never knew were to look.

Psycho - I'm just happy that I finally have something. From here I can look for a job at a lesurely (sp?) pace.

$5.15...Remember, Florida is a more "service orianted" state, we get payed less but the cost of living is far less.
