Woohoo!!! I got a job... playing video games!

I had a job interview at a medium sized game publishing company (mostly PC) over a month ago. I really hate interviews and get very nervous during them. I didn't hear from them for over a month, so I thought I didn't get it. They call me this morning and ask if I'm still interested. So I'm thinking, "Do I want to play games for a living?" 😕 I said yes, of course 😀 I'm just starting as tech support, but I have to "learn" all their games first. 😉

i got a friend that does that. It gets tedious after a while, but it sure beats mixing concrete and practicing law.

Dude... that must really suck!

You poor baby !! How terrible that hard times in IT are forcing you to take a job where you get paid to be a gamer,my heart bleeds for you... not !!! 😀

Congrats on the new job !!! 😀

<< Yeah, tell us what games they currently have out and/or coming in the future. >>

Well, most of them are adventure games but they're coming out with some FPS games soon, like one called Gore. Haven't really looked at all their games yet.

What company?

Sweet. I have a friend who works for EA Sports and it's his job simply to play video games and try and find bugs, like trying to get Tiger Woods to attack the other players or something... of course he makes it seem like it's the worse job in the world, but please...

No offense, but I'd definitely HAVE to be paid to play some of those games 😉
All kidding aside, that sounds like a very cool job. It's a great way to break into the gaming industry.

God some people are so f*cking lucky.

I have all my fingers crossed that I get a job as a leasing specialist at my Apartment Complex

Congrats man we expect constant updates of your work days.

And if the company ever needs beta testers for any up and coming good games, be sure to remember us here at ATOT.

I'm not here to burst your bubble... so first, congrats on your new job (especially during these times)!

Second, it is NOT as good as you may think. I recall reading a lengthy thread a while ago about how it sucks because of deadlines (OT hours)... playing the same part of the game over and over to reproduce problems. You get the idea.

Maybe for some, it beats a desk-job (web design, etc. are desk jobs too)... but don't get too excited until you know your long-term job role there. Good luck!!!!

When you get the call for an interview with Hawaiian Tropic or some photographer for the 'oil boy' job, give me a call, that work might be too hard(no pun intended) for you.

Congrats.

<< Hey, let us know how those Nancy Drew games are.......*snicker* >>

Ironically, the first PC game I ever bought was Colonel's Bequest, a Sierra game about a female sleuth 🙂

Well, I've worked on movie sets where I'd have to work 20 hour days and I've worked in customer service with really angry customers, so this job should be child's play. But I won't be testing games for bugs/gameplay issues. Although being a professional gameplayer would be very satisfying as well. 🙂
