WooHoo - High Speed Pursuit in Colorado Springs!

On my way back from lunch (Subway daily special!) a green SUV - maybe an explorer - comes flying southbound on Academy with a cruiser right behind him. Runs the light and turns right at Chelton. I go up another block or so where I turn left, and here comes the same guy - he's picked up an unmarked car now also. Runs the light again to go N. on Academy. Another cruiser coming from behind me, and a 4th coming up Fountain to join the party. Looked like the guy was weaving to keep the cops from passing him.

Heard more sirens when I was going into the office. That guy is toast.

Remembered to check the police blotter today:

On September 14, 2006 at approximately 1130 hours Detectives and Special Agents from the ATF/CSPD Joint Task Force discovered a possible stolen vehicle in the area of the Days Inn on South Circle Drive and Interstate 25. The vehicle was suspected to be driven by a party by the name of Danny Stakley, who was wanted on active felony warrants. Assistance was requested from Sand Creek Patrol Units and Officers Wrede and Chacon attempted to stop, when the suspect fled. A short pursuit ensued where Stakley eventually abandon the vehicle and continued to elude police on foot. The area east Murray Boulevard and north of Airport Road was cordoned off and patrol officers and task force members were eventually led to check the residence at 204 Frost Lane. Detectives and Special Agents from the task force were able to locate Staley in the attic, where he had concealed himself under the insulation.

Yea, not the best part of town. Of course, it's all relative - the worst parts of C.S. would be considered "good neighborhoods" in many cities.

I was hoping to see a PIT stop right there in front of me - it looked like the cop was pulling up next to the rear quarter.

Hey cool, I live in Colorado Springs as well. That's pretty crazy that we had a high speed pursuit in our (little?) town; I heard some news about it somewhere, but didn't know what the deal was.

Anyways, "Hi" to all of you other COS peeps out there
