WOOHOO!!! got a class action lawsuit settlement check in the mail today!

That is less than the postage. I'm sure it COST american express a lot to mail these checks to everyone, but the only people to really "win" in a case like this are the lawyers, I bet they got millions.

I dont see how i've been owned or punked. It had something to do about unfair late fees, and I guess all customers got some money back. I have never had late fees though.

For that matter Amex probably will win too.

I have a feeling that most of the people who receive those checks won't cash them. In 30 days (or whatever it says on the check) when the check expires Amex gets to shorten up their losses on the suit.

In either case you lost because it'll cost you more to drive to the bank to deposit that check than the check is worth. With a car that gets 20mpg and gas at $2.50/gal you can drive 2 miles on that check.

I got a free CD burner out of a class action lawsuit once. Someone had given me a broken Phillips burner (I think it was a 4x drive), and then there was a class action suit related to the reliability of those drives. I entered my name, address, and serial number fort he burner on some website, and a couple months later I got a brand new drive (which was a 12x4x24 drive, I think, and it was fast at the time) in the mail.
