A GM diesel V8 made it 420,000 miles?! GM's automotive diesels were junk! I can't believe that car lasted that long. It's gotta be a collector's item or something! Call GM and see of they'll give you a free new car if you let them use the 420,000 miler in an ad campaign. :p

Unless it's a transplanted truck diesel, I'm amazed. GM had a few diesels that were just converted gasoline engines and they just didn't last at all. The diesels that were designed to be diesel were fine, but the converted gas engines were crap. Your family must really take good care of their cars.

Nope, not transplanted :) I'm pretty amazed myself actually. Ya, we try to take good care of them; hit a deer a few years back and it got a new paint job, looks pretty nice. I'd post a pic but its on angelfire and my account would get locked after pry 10 min :p

My first car was a 1966 AMC Rambler, hence my username. It was a finicky old thing but everybody thought it was a cool old car. I still got it too, about to upgrade the motor to a V8.

I believe in 81 or so, GM actually produced a decent V8 passenger diesel, but they had such a terrible reputation by then no-one cared...
