So I moved into my new house a few months ago and received a phone number that was someone elses and receive a few calls a week asking for the old owner of the phone number. Sadly to say it's somewhat irritating, but tolerable.

Fast forward today and someone from Georgia calls me a few times and I don't pick up... finally on the last call I pickup and he starts with all these questions about what my address is and who he's speaking to. He starts saying he's shipped two fedex packages to my house and he thinks he's getting scammed out of his XBOX live crap or something. Then he says how he got my phone number was doing a reverse lookup on the address he shipped to (which is wrong since the person doesn't have that phone number anymore) and now he wants my address so he can reverse lookup my address to verify what I'm saying is true.

I'm not sure why I let him go on so long but once he started asking for my address, etc I hung up... anyways, I tried a couple reverse lookup sites and they both showed my address and not the wrong one so he must not have tried to hard to verify his facts.

Anyways, yay for scammers screwing up my peaceful night.

Update:

This idiot keeps calling my house saying that he found me on the intarweb doing a reverse lookup and crap and he's going to keep calling until we tell him the truth. He call about 7 times until my wife got mad and picked up and told him to stop calling because he has the wrong number.

What can I do to get this idiot off my back? I have embarq... any way to block his number? Or any number from Georgia for that matter?

On after thought... I should tell him that I have his packages, but I'm not going to pay him and for him to come drive down to my house (not my house, but the house he shipped to) and to come get his money himself. :) That would be a surprise to whoever lives there.

I had the misfortune of getting the former phone number of some deadbeat named Raphael Rodriguez when I moved. I must have received nasty phone calls from bill collectors for about eight months until they finally gave up.

Too annoying now since I have all my bills, alarm system, etc on my phone number.

Plus, who knows what lucky person's old number I could get? Mobster? ;)

I get random calls in either Spanish or Vietnamese. Fortunately, no bill collectors.

My cell number is like that. I get phone calls from people talking in Spanish pretty often, at least once a month.

I got one lady that kept calling me (but at times my phone wasn't on), and even left a voice message even though it says my name upon entering "message time", rambled on about something for a good long time as well. Another call after that and she finally got the picture.

heh my cell phone number is one off of the a college's health departments.

So a couple times a year i get people calling.

had one girl call 3 times in 10 minutes. on the 4th call i finally asked her name. i sat for a minute then got back and said ohh you are pregnant! congratlations!

she was in shock. finally she said she only came in for a ankle problem how did we know she was pregnant. at that time i said i don't know considering she has called the wrong number 4 FUCING TIMES>

no she did not call a 5th.

When I first moved into my house I too had to change numbers because I changed area codes. They gave me this number that had come from someone running from a collection agency.

6 times a day you would answer the phone and there'd be a long pause before someone with an Indian accent would come on and say, "Jimmy?" After I explained there was nobody named Jimmy there about 10 times over three days. I finally went off. Now, let me explain, I have a reputation for being too nice of a guy and listening to telemarketers before I tell them, no.

I said, "Jimmy? Jimmy? Jimmy up, Jimmy down jimmy all around, jimmy here, jimmy there, jimmy everywhere. You can jimmy a car door or a window. Maybe you're jimmy, maybe jimmy is just a state of mind, maybe jimmy died, maybe I killed jimmy and stuffed his remains in the trunk of my car. And, then hung up.

If you could have seen the dumbfounded look on my family's faces as they looked at me thinking, Dad finally has lost it.

I love my phone number. It only has 3 different numbers, in a easy to remember sequence. Of course, my previous number belonged to some 30 year old women who apparently pissed ALOT of people off. I would pick up the phone 5 times a day to hear someone swearing at me at the top of their lungs, and I always just listened to it, trying to get as much information as I could about the previous owner. All I know was that she was unpopular.I think she owned people alot of money.

Heh my mom got a virgin mobile phone and kept getting calls from some local video rental place. "please return blah blah video, your fee is $10.xx" heheh it went on and on for i'd guess 2 weeks until the calls were "we need the video back, the fee is $190.something dollars".

I kept getting calls from this collection agency. Despite telling them repeatedly that they had the WRONG phone number and add me to their DO NOT call list, they kept calling.

So I finally said I'm the guy they're looking for. Asked them "what's my loan number and address you have?" which of course they gave to me. Then I took care of it in my own special way. Two weeks later not a single call from the collection agency :)

At least your last four aren't 6969. Easy to remember but you end up with a lot of funny calls which are offset by the annoying ones.
