Quarters. How can you learn enough in a quarter? Are your classes really long?

3 days a week, 1 hour per day.... that's per class (it is normal, almost like high school)

Well, you learn enough since you have to study on your own... but the thing is, if you screw up and slack off (like i am now..that's y i'm still studying for tomorrow's CHEMISTRY FINAL) you're pretty much dead... the good thing is it is hard to get really really screwed up since you don't have the time to do it...

BAM BAM a year has gone by *sigh*

DAMN! 3 days/week, 1 hr/day.... That's the same as in college with semesters! So, how many credit hours do you get for that? When I was an undergrad, 3 days x 1 hr for a SEMESTER got you 3 credit hours. --Unless you were in MY major, in which case you went 3 days for 2 hours, or 2 days for 3 hours. --And STILL got only 3 credit hours. --And I had to have 144 hours for graduation (which is REALLY high compared to most others.

So, how many hours?

Each class is 4 units each...
sometimes they are 6 units, but those are 5 days/week

for graduation, the minimum is 180 units

what's so weird?

4 quarters a year, summer being the fourth (most ppl take that quarter off..heh)
2 sessions in the summer... i believe you can take up to 12 units in the summer... which is 3 classes.

It's weird because our systems are so different. Two semesters, and then summer sessions. Fall semester is late August-mid-december, and you take classes that are generally 3 hours each. Spring semester is next, from beginning of January to end of May. Again, you get 3 hours per class. Generally, in one semester, the average load is 12 to 18 hours (4 to 6 classes) They meet 3 times per week for an hour a day, or twice a week for 1.5. Then, we have 2 five-week summer sessions. You can get up to 12 hours in a summer (4 classes - 2 per summer session). The summer classes meet all day long, (about 5-5 hours) every day.

wow you guys go to class a lot more than us... i dunno if that's better or not... it actually is kinda hard to learn so much on your own but we get a lot more flexibility with the quarter system. and damn, semesters start so late

9-12 fall
1-3 winter (right about now... finals)
4-6 spring
7-8 summer

see? just like HS =)

No, NOT just like HS. We had semesters in high school, too. And they were set up exactly like my college was. --And there was no school in the summers.

My school has quarters too. I think it's a pretty nice schedule. We get a couple weeks off in the summer and winter, but since everyone co-ops, you really only go to school half the year anyway.

bleah. my finals start today and end on friday. :(

quarters are pretty cool. I think the most time i ever spent sitting in one class is 5 hours per week. once for this environment class - 3 hours of lecture per week, two hour discussion. and my french class is everyday for an hour a day. 4 units though. :(

summer goes from mid june to pretty much late sept. i start classes in sept on like the last thursday.

YEAH! Done with them last Thursday. Quarters are either a blessing or a royal pain. So far I say blessing since I don't have anything to worry about over break.
