I've been looking for a new job for months now, mostly back east and actually turned down two jobs (one in PA, one in NJ). Two weeks ago I literally had a new job fall into my lap, and it's right down the road from my current job! I got the official job offer today and turned in my 2 week notice to my current employer promptly. Check this out:

Old job:
rotating 12 hour shifts
one weekend off per month
piss poor management
$24.16/hr
operations (bad) and I&C tech (good) work
no chance for promotion
no training opportunites
have worked every holiday for the past 2 years

New job:
straight days, 8 hours per day
all weekends off
great site management
$29.53/hr
I&C tech work
tons of advancement opportunity
already scheduled for advanced DCS/HMI training
no more working holidays

To have this happen at Christmas time is just incredible. This is the second best thing that could have happened to my family, the first being the same job in New York. I'll make more money while working less hours and all of them during regular business hours.

I hope this doesn't sound like I'm gloating, I truly believe that I'm not. I'm just so thrilled that after such a rough year something so awesome has happened. My hope is now restored for a good life. Keep your chins up guys and gals, good stuff does happen when you least expect it to.

No, I need a fat burner to help me burn off the last bit of lard I have. I've had a vasectomy and have never had an erectile problem. ;)

For everyone's reference: $24.16/hr = $50,252.80/year and $29.53/hr = $61,422.40/year. That's one hell of a raise

Thanks a lot guys. The new job is excellent in every way that I know to evaluate it. The promotional opportunity that I'm up for will be what they call a controls IT tech, basically a non-degreed engineer spot. If I get it, and if I finish my EE I'll be set for a plant engineer position. That's about 5 years out as I see it now.

Basically I'm setting up my career for the next 10 years in this one move. Aside from completing the ET/RO program in the US Navy this will be my biggest career move to date.

Why the hell is this thread at 1 star? Sounds like some people are jealous or something.

Anyway, congrats man!
