Woo-hoo! Finally broke 10K in 3DM2001SE

I know, I know; you've all been at 15K or better for like a year already. But let a man have his 15 seconds of fame, will'ya? 😀

Read'em and chuckle!!!!

I have been trying to get to 10K for what seems like years now. Is this a big deal? Will it change the world? Do I expect you to hoot and holler? No, nope and nah. But it made me happy. For about 34 seconds I was happy. We must take what we can get these days.

Cool, now fire up UnrealTournament 2003 @ 1024x768 with all the game detail settings set to high ... load any of the maps with 12 bots and then hang your head once again. :disgust:

EDIT: Which GeForce4 Ti4200 did you get? Regardless, you should definately OC that card higher. I'm very confident that you can OC the RAM higher.

Hehe, well congratulations. I hope my cheering makes you happy for that additional 26 seconds it takes to make a minute. It always feels good to break certain scores in 3Dmark. I broke 8K myself once I did some OCing and tweaking.

How do you set everything to Highest for the benchmark? Go into the regular game like you're gonna play, set everything, exit then run the test?

IIRC when you run the benchmark.exe file in the ut\system folder it runs at max details.

Cool. I did not know that. I just ran it at 1024 x 748 ---> 126/60.

But, as many others have said, the benchmark is kinda weak b/c in the game, I play at 1152x864 (no AA) with the stock settings. (Textures=HIGH World detail=HIGHEST Character detail=HIGH Physics=NORMAL

On the outdoor maps, I stay in the high 30's low 40's. Indoor maps high 50's. I have EAX hardware ON, if that means anything. Overall, I'm very happy with my rig.

Congrats my AMD friend!!!!

I hit 10k about 3months ago with my radeon 8500le 250/250 non-oced...I play no games so I am getting rid of it for a slower 8500DV all-in-wonder card...I guess it may only do like 8500-9000 on my system....

Thanks Insane3D and Duvie. It's great to see old friends. 🙂 The only reason I hit 10K is b/c the videocard is overclocked. With no vidcard OC, I hit 9684 and that was it.

We'll see how the card holds up to OCing...*shrug* if I fry it, I'll stick the GF3 back in there...expensive hobby, we have here.

Insane, you've got PM on the way.

Nice Michael! When I get my new cpu I will try to get into 10K club too. Im in 8K right now. 😉

Hey Rafael, how you been, man?

If you can get a AGOIA or AROIA stepping XP1600 and snag a KT333 mobo, do it. A 1750MHz CPU for $52 is nothing to sneeze at!

I was comparing my 3dmarks to yours and what I found interesting is that I beat your Nature score 49.7 fps to 41.0 fps. That's strange because I have the same processor overclocked to the same speed but only 256 mb ram and just an overclocked ati radeon 8500 le 64 MB.

BAH HUMBUG!!!!!

I guess I didn't get such a great 4200. I was just playing some RTCW and it crashed to the desktop! 🙁 Sucks...😛 Oh well, stock settings it is....but hey, I ran the 3DM benchmark just dandy though!!! DAMN....I wonder why it crashed? I guess any crahs indicates a NOT STABLE OC, right? 😛

Good deal Mike, don't let anyone steal your thunder! just remind them of what they paid for those big scoring cards compared to what you picked that 4200 up for 😉

😀 Wurd, Brudda, wurd! 😀

I can play UT2K3 at 1152x864 at the stock (default) settings and stay above 35FPS even on the outdoor maps...I'm golden. I have gotten used to higher resolutions...I just can't do 800x600 anymore, for ANYTHING. 😛 Blech.

Possibly towards the end of the year when the NV30 hits, lots of folks will have 4600's over in FS/FT. I'll pick one up for 1/2 of what they paid for it. Never again will I pay $350 for a videocard...did that w/the GF3. 😱

Fine as wine Michael! 🙂
Yeah Im thinking about the Epox, one of my friends wants my Shuttle, Im thinking about getting a Epox KT333. 😉
And also get the XP1600+, I do want to get to the 10K club too! Hehehehehehehehehehehe Just need to check my bank account!
Thnx for the TIP Mike! 😀
Good luck on ur OC! 😉

MichaelD, for your system specs your score looks a bit low. The link above is my own run from today with a modest overclock of my GF4 Ti 4200 128MB card. Everything else is running at stock speed (albeit with aggressive timings on my memory and my HDDs in a RAID 0 config). I think a higher o/c of your GF card and some more aggressive settings in your BIOS for your memory and cpu might help you get a more impressive score.

Congrats on breaking 10k though, I only did this myself about a month ago. I felt so behind... I still do when I see the scores other guys and gals get. 🙂

Hello SeekingTao,

Nice score. Not trying to make excuses, but 3DMark is not an "exact science." If you run the benchmark three times in a row, it's not uncommon to get scores differing by 100-150 points each time....it's normal for it. When I broke 10K I only tried once...if I tried again, I may have gotten higher or lower...I was just happy to get to 10K. 😀

But alas, my GF4 4200 is not an overclocking card by any means. It crashes me to desktop at 265/495. 🙁 It's made by a company called "Palit" it looks like a rebadged MSI (which i believe is a rebadged something-else...)the PCB is purple.

*shrugs* Oh well...back to stock. I can still play UT2K3 at decent settings so I'm happy. The rest of the games I'm currently playing MoHAA, RTCW, etc don't stress it much at all.

I, too, am looking for 10,000 points. I'm currently at 9,480 but I can't get any higher because my voltage is limited to 1.700.

Wow, my forum code sucked last night. 😀 Sorry about that.

Back to business. I agree with you completely about the irregularity of 3DMark2k1 scores, but I took your score to be average of what your system would score. That's kind of the way I view my own scores. That's not my best score on this system by the way, I have gotten almost 11,000 with my card clocked a bit higher and while using the 40. series of Detonator drivers. I prefer to stick to WHQL drivers though so I only advertise the scores I get with the 30.82 drivers.

About your card, that's too bad about it's inability to clock higher. Have you tried to use ramsinks and a more robust gpu cooler by any chance? I installed ramsinks on my VisionTek and I have had the memory over 600MHz DDR on several occassions. I don't know how high I can take either the memory or gpu either. I guess I am a coward. 😱 I've had the card up to 315/625 for 2 hours of 3DMark2k1 Demo looping with no lockups/crashes/corruptions before but I haven't pushed it higher yet. Maybe when Doom]I[ comes out I will have to but for now the card is fine at 250/500 for every day operation. Oh yeah, back to cooling. Maybe you could try to get one of the Thermaltake GF4 coolers and use Arctic Silver 3 and get some ramsinks and use Arctic Silver Epoxy. You might get better results then.

Good luck to you, sir!

I have had the card at 275/515 but it didn't like it very much! :Q

I used to run the card at 260/505, but started getting artifacts in 3DM, so I knocked it back to stock. Last night, after hitting 10K and posting here about it, I booted up RTCW and it crashed to the desktop about a minute into the game. The card sucks for overclocking, period. :| Runs fine at STOCK speeds though.

I may try some better cooling on it, just for grins. It has the NVidia reference cooler on it now...I thought that would be sufficient, but I guess not. 🙁
