Woo hoo! Dual AMD XP 1800+ parts arrived!

conjur

No Lifer
But, once it's all up and running in a few hours, I'm afraid I'll be paraphrasing Seinfeld:

"There is no WU. NO WU!"

Migroo,

In the words of our fearful...errr....fearless Engineer.

more...more...MORE! 🙂 This one will be my DV editing rig that I've been wanting for oh so long. And, to answer Minendo's question, the mobo is an ASUS A7M266-D. Not sure of the rev...don't know where to look on the board for it. Got 512MB of PC2400 DDR RAM, too. All I need now is the video card (probably the ATI 8500DV but that will have to wait a couple of weeks). For now, an old STB AGP card from my parts PC (PII-350)

I'm definitely going to have add another shelf to the rigs' abode (pull the old video editing box out from behind the TV, got a Gateway server that's been away from home way too long, and that iPaq on the top shelf just doesn't look right up there 🙂 )

The motherboard revision number is located between the 66/64 PCI slot and the 33 MHz PCI slot. My board is 1.03 with BIOS 1004. When you boot up your system, let us know what's your BIOS version.

Goodluck🙂

I want, i want! Nice rig ya got there 😀

/me checks on Soni's race page.....and yes, conjur is on E^5, along with me 😀

BTW you can use my public Queue if you want to for WUs (just submit a result to me and i'll start filling up the queue!) 🙂

I think when i get either an upgrade to my computer, or get another one (so my mum can have this one) then i'll get a dual AMD motherboard, but probably go with a pair of Durons to go in it (providing the motherboard supports dual Durons!), to save some money 🙂

<< PC2400 DDR RAM >>

Is this REGISTERED DDR? Let us know how high of FSB can you go as well as if you can set this memory to 2-2-2.

The board is rev 1.03 🙁 Was hoping for better but I'll take it.

The RAM is not registered...I didn't find any PC2400 that was and this was $158 for 512MB...just hope it works!

And I'll be looking you up, Confused, in a little bit 🙂

Conjur, how about (if you dont need the 8500DV (although you probably do... 🙂) a Matrox G450 or something?

We use one of those in the video production machine at work.

8500DV will come in handy for capturing old VHS tape and new miniDV tape.

Now, got the thing all put together and hit the power button the first time and NADA! I freaked!

Then I realized I hadn't plugged in the Power LED/SW leads and the reset lead and the speaker lead and the HDD activity lead. So, got those all hooked up right and power comes on but then...NO VIDEO!! ACK!!

Trying to figure this one out...might have an old PCI video card somewhere.....

pfffft

reseated the card...no go. Can't find the really old AGP card I had and no PCI video in the house. May have to take down one of the other PCs

Got video now. Took out the USB 2.0 card from the 64-bit slot and my Promise ATA133 card from the other 64-bit slot (it's supposed to support being in that slot) and now I have boot! GRRR

Oh...no keyboard now....wtf?!?!

Welcome to the world of getting a PC going 🙂 🙁

Try the bare minimum (although it sounds like you have)

Boot with only the video card populating a slot.

For keyboard to work - you need to connect the hdd led cable to the led pins next to the jumperless pins. The manual is messed up 🙁

Conjur, did you have it on jumper mode or jumperless mode.

If you put it in jumper mode, it should work fine but no overclocking.

To overclock, you need to put it in jumperless mode and set the FSB dip switch to all off. It's not mentioned in the manual.🙂

m2kewl is correct. Don't use the LED connector located in the same header as the power switch. There's a separate header for LED.

Yep...found this thread mentioning the HDD LED issue (uh...thanks for telling me first, guys....sheesh!! 😀 )

I'll set the dip switches to all off as I noticed in BIOS I cannot change FSB. I did set the DDR RAM to all 2T so we'll see what happens with that. Attempting to put the Promise UltraTX 133 back in the 64-bit slot (but no USB card...don't really need it).

Oh, IsOs, btw, the BIOS rev was 1004 on the rev 1.03 board.

You've the same board that I got. BIOS 1004 on board revision 1.03.

With my inexpensive cooling, I could only get up to 141 FSB.😱
