Top speeds are cool, but try sustaing them for more than two minutes at a time feeling cool about yourself. :)

I came back form North Branch, NJ in a rented MIstubishi Diamante, did 130mph for a totoal of 47 miles straight, beat that.
:D

Of course had I gotten pulled over at anytime, i think they just shoot you on the side of the road for that type of blatant speeding...hehe!

edit
For anyone wondering, I do still have my GPS with the top speed on it. :)

Hey. If I can do 90 in an '88 Ford Escort with a tiny four banger and a three speed automatic, you should no problem in an Accord!

Wohoo, I managed 40mph downhill with a tailwind before I had to leave the car by the side of the road tonight.

My usual favorite area is the northern stretch of I-95 past the Route 128 (Peabody) split. The stretch near Newburyport just before the New Hampshire border is four lanes and dead straight. On many parts you can see for a few miles to make sure there are no other motorists or staties looking to write a fat ticket. Lately the area is not as attractive because of the harsh winter. The road is heavily potholed and the temporary patches are of questionable quality.

Today I happen to be on Route 24 past West Bridgewater where the road jumps back and forth from two lanes to three and then two etc... Around the Fall River/New Bedford area approaching I-195 the road suddenly got empty and I was the only one around. Found a nice open straight to have some fun. Other times too were too many cars around to do anything other than go with the flow of the traffic.

ah, yeah, that stretch of 95 is even better on early winter mornings when you're heading up to go skiing/riding at about 7 in the morning...as for 24, I haven't been to that particular section, but my experience (from 128 in) is that it's just a sketchy road to be on.

Hey, doesn't the M5 and almost all other BMW's come with a speedlimiter that cuts the fuel at 155mph?!? WTF?
Most new cars have those these days.

It is well known that any error in BMW speedometers is always on the higher side. After all they have an hyped image to maintain. Broadly speaking, most speedo's have some error and up to 10% is the usual acceptable limit - which is why cops is some countries will not stop you for being less than 10% over the posted limit - so if Windogg claims his car was doing 165 then it could, theoretically, be doing 150 and the speedo with 10% error shows 165. Also as he points out the limit is easily disabled by software, & I believe certain BMWs sold in europe do not have this limit.

...and I bet she was solid-as-a-rock at 165 too! BMWs don't come "alive" until 80-90...speeds at which most cars are giving out.

Live for the drive! :)

I know of the massive speedometer error and subtracted 10MPH from the indicated. Plus did you miss the post where I said I disabled the speed limiter with a software update?

Car threads seem to be the only thing people in OT are interested about. Not much interesting material here since mid-late 2000. All downhill since then.

Why am I up at 4AM? My ex locked herself out of her apartment and none of her friends were sober enough to drive. So I had to let her in with the spare key.
