This is exactly what happened: my computer has two 80GB hard drives and I received a 320GB drive for Christmas. I unplugged the two hard drives and plugged in the new one. I went to install windows on the new drive, and it appeared to be going well up until the system rebooted. It would no longer recognize the drive in the BIOS and would not boot. Not wanting to mess with it any more at the time, I removed the new drive and replace the old drives. Now the system will not even post. Resetting the BIOS did not work, nor did removing the battery. Any ideas?

I don't think I damaged the cable. I can't even get into the BIOS. The power supply is a 500w Enermax liberty, so I don't think it's that either. I hope I don't have to end up having to buy a new board.

Also, original two drives were plugged into the two sata 1.5gb/s ports and the new drive was in the sata 3.0gb/s port.

Sounds like your board is toast.
Only thing left is to systematically remove hardware and try and find a culprit. if that doesn't work...get a new board. There are lots of decent deals in the for sale forum. My brother in law is going to sell his Core 2 board (Gigabyte p965 ds3, or something like that)(jdawg1536). hope you find a solution, and welcom to the world of computers (if no one has formally welcomed you yet)

Thanks, I guess I'm stuck on my laptop until I can find the money to buy a new motherboard. I'll probably go for something like this A8N5X
