I see all the people who are calling for removal and destruction of the so call statue. I personally think it is stupid and idiotic thing to ask for. Statues are just... statues. Art if you will. They are part of the United States histories; removing the statues will not erase the hate. In fact, the forced removal will give give the so call white supremacist even more ammo.

Keep in mind the whole thing happen because of the initial removal of the statues. Hate cannot be and will not be erased just because of the statues removal.

Was the Lee statue destroyed or moved to a museum?

To me, Statues are just statues. Removing them doesn't erase hate. It is merely people "demand" them to be removed, a feel good thing if you ask me.

1. The city of Charlottesville held a vote on whether or not to relocate a statue of Robert E. Lee on public property, to somewhere else more appropriate like a museum or a battlefield where Lee's men died. The statue was never going to be destroyed. The locals all voted to have the statue relocated elsewhere from public property.

2. All the white supremacists protesting the statue "removal" are all from out-of-state, and therefore, have no right to say or argue against a vote that was made by the city locals.

3. Subjectively, Robert E. Lee is not an American that should be glorified on public property within the United States. Even if you were to believe that he was much more "gentlemanly" and "less terrible than you would think", he chose to stick with an ideal and a nation that lost horribly in the civil war and ended up on the wrong side of history.

It's not going to be "removed and destroyed" a vote was had to remove it and place it in a museum.

There is a difference between celebrating a sordid past and remembering history. Removing the statue doesn't mean that they will stop teaching about the horrid past of the US.

But we have to agree this mess started when they choose to move the statues right? You are right that the city have the right to remove or destroy it since it was in a vote.

No, the KKK and the Nazis have been around for a long fucking time.

This particular bullshit started when the people through a democratic election decided to get rid of the statues but actually it started before that with the renaming of the parks.

Come on, you can't have a statue of General Lee in a park called "emancipation park", even an idiot like you gets that, right?

You know, I think it really is a statue. I believe that may be the one thing everyone involved agrees on. It's a real statue.

Anyway, symbols and messages mean something. People may have objections to the message.

Would you want a giant poster displayed in your town declaring "Xellos2099 is a nitwit"? (well, OK, nobody there probably knows your forum name, so you'd probably not care, but surely you get the point?)

Why would we have to agree on that? It's completely inaccurate. The problem as you put it was started long ago. Really it never stopped since slavery.

Holy shit, are you kidding??!?! I honestly did not pay attention to that. The removal of the statue was more than warranted without that, let alone with that fact.
Oh and by the way, you literally aren't erasing a fucking thing, you cannot do that. History has been written for this particular time, the battles, the soldiers, it's all there. So maybe stops saying it's erasing history, because that's just silly.

Goddamn... it really is called Emancipation Park

Do you oppose moving these statues to a museum were historical relics belong? You're not for glorifying traitors of the United States of America are you?

Right we don't have to agree on it but is it a fact?
nope, at best it was just an excuse to wave their little flags, carry their big scary guns, look so darn militaristic in their body armor and shields. the removal of the statue was a convenient excuse to be even more ignorant than they currently are.

Far too many statues of morally-questionable characters around anyway. Replace them with abstract art or bike stands.

In fact I suggest erecting a statue of Trump, just so it can be immediately removed, smashed up, and buried in a landfill. Then dug up again and smashed into smaller pieces and melted down and made into a commode.

Maybe a statue of a slave in that area who helped free others or went to fight in the Union, that'd be some motherfucking progress right there.

Yeah, fair enough, that's a better idea.
Though I do like bikestands. Not enough of them about.
