Won't boot with Patriot Viper 2x2GB

Boot with the mushkin, remove all overclock, manually set the DDR Voltage to 2.1v. Leave everything else at auto.

Reboot with the Patriot. If it boots, go back to whatever overclock settings you want, just remember that you'll need to manually set the voltage.

No dice. I tried this and tried to reduce clocks to no avail. I don't understand, can two ram sticks simply be dead with no use? I'm going to try 2.2v and see what happens if that doesn't work then I'll just call patriot tomorrow.

Bummer. Is possible they're both DOA. Good news is that Patriot's RMA process is fairly pain-free.

I found the problem. Upon close inspection I found that the heat sinks on both sides of each stick were rather unsecure. At first it seemed to just be adhesive wearing out but it turns out that the heat sinks pulled the a chip right off the board still stuck to the heat sink but clearly off of the module. Sure enough the other stick had the same thing. My dad gave me these once he realized they weren't compatible with his mobo. My guess is when he was installing them he was frusturated that they didn't work and tried to jam them in sandwhiching the top of the heat sink which not only pulled the heat sink off some but the chips themselves. This is really upsetting because that would render these out of warranty I however have contacted patriot memory and explained this and am awaiting their reply. I'll let you guys know what happens.

Actually I had some patriot memory that the heatsinks warped and peeled away from the ICs, and they went ahead and replaced them. So hopefully they'll take care of you.
