Wondering where this term came from...

The Term Spounger. Its what you call bodyboarders. I hear it alot down at my local spot and was wondering if anyone know the origin of it?

Pretty much. They're usually made out of foam. Like a sponge. We surfers are on par with biologists when it comes to devising terms that sound clever but are actually obvious descriptions.

yeah i asked another board and they said the same thing. They said that its cause the old bodyboards had that same texture. Another guy said that its from the DOW cores, looks like a spounge... well make up your own mind on that one!
