wondering if this overclock is good

so i have an e6600 and 2x1gb of crucial ballistix ram (pc2-8000)

the muiltiplier is of course stuck at 9x.

i bumped my fsb up to 300mhz, giving me a core speed of 2.7ghz.

my fsb. to dram ratio is 3:5, giving my ram a rated speed of 1ghz.

in cpuz, my "rated fsb" says 1200mhz.

stock fsb is 1066. is 1200 going to hurt anything?

i oc'd my e6600 to 3.8 stable on air

my ram is supposed to be good but is turning out to be uber crap, so i'm still messing with it.

get a 680i board and u can unlink the two and get some sweet ass ratios per se.

What motherboard are you using?

And you won't hurt anything unless TOO MUCH Voltage is used.

Keep your CPU's temperature under 60c LOAD and the voltage below 1.5V and you should be fine.

300FSB is nothing. I run a 445 FSB day and night. Some even run 500+ FSB.

u run a fully stable 445 x 4 = 1780 = 4ghz using air in a non freeze ur buttoff climate on an e6600? and did it below 1.5v?

I got a good chip....and there are even better ones out there.....


Tomorrow I'll be installing a Tuniq Tower 120 hoping it will bring my temperatures even lower, then I'll try and make it to 4.3ghz or so.

Too bad the 975X chipset can hardly do 500FSB.....

i wasnt saying 2.7 is good. that was my starting point......

i was just wondering about that 1200mhz fsb..

so if i keep the voltage down on the cpu, i should be fine? my temps right now at about 40C w/ a zalman 7700 all copper

my mobo is an asus p5w-dh deluxe (975x chipset)

1200mhz fsb is the system bus...it is quad pumped fsb which you have set to 300...4x300= 1200mhz...On a deluxe mobo it should be able to handle above 1600mhz or set 400fsb

Many would say give it 1.5v set the fsb to 401 and see if you post!!!!!

the problem with this board is huge fsb holes....

You could drop it to 8x multiplier set fsb to 401 (not 400...strap reasons)....set ram to 1:1 right now to be safe and keep it out of the equation


keys to ocing are ISOLATION AND CONSOLIDATION............Find the cpu limit first. cpu speed will bring you more the ram speed alone. so get the highet cpu speed figured out first. ram speed will be more of a tweak.

Mine runs a 460 FSB on stock volts at ~53°C under load.

you're saying you run 4.0 ghz stable on air or just you've been able to HIT 4.0 ghz on air?

if you have, i'd like to see some screenies (stability tested on air that is) cuz that would make it one of the nicest 6600's I've seen! 🙂

yeah i want screenies. 4ghz on an e6600 using air is very very very good. and if it's under 60 load even better. but i seriously doubt u can do it at 1.5v or less.

Orthos stable @ 3.8ghz but gaming stable @ 4ghz since my temperatures just get out of hand @ 4ghz!

Damn, I got the tuniq tower installed and everything but my temperatures during Orthos Load are very bad.

I start off with a 30c idle temperature @ 3.8ghz and when running orthos it just goes all the way up to 66-70c.

@ 4ghz 1.52V, the temperatures go higher and the test crashes.

I basically got the same results with the Thermalright Ultra 120, and doing this whole installation has been a waste of time for me.

I wish I had a Water Cooling setup!

The Tuniq Tower and Ultra 120 are very close in performance. I'd be surprised if you saw more than 2-3C difference.

I got a TT 120 because my brother's e6400 overclocked to 3.52ghz with 1.47V idles @ 40c but only goes up to 50c during orthos, that's only a 10c increase.

My temperatures go up to 30c once I start testing orthos.

Only 1 cooler left to try, Go Zalman 9700 LED!
