Wondering if comp is overheating

Ever since a couple of days ago, my computer has been hanging and restarting arbritarily. Then after I try to reboot, it sometimes gets past the BIOS screen but then immediately goes to a black screen where I have to reboot again. If I turn the comp totally off for a minute or two, windows starts back up. I opened it up to check it out and when the comp was booting up I see the heatsink fan moving so slow, I could actually see the AMD letters whille the fan was spinning. Later as I kept watching it, it sped up and sometimes it slows down...

I decided to install PCProbe and saw that my CPU temp was around 60-62 and my MOBO temp was around 35-37. Is this too hot? I have an ASUS A7N266-VM motherboard. Could this be why my comp is messing up? I already backed up and deleted everything off the hard drive thinking it was a software problem but it still is happening. Please help.

P.S. Heatsink fan on PCProbe says its about 3000-3400 RPM.

Thanks.

those temps are on the high side but not t the point where it should overheat. this may be a PSU issue or a ram issue. run memtest to see if the ram is ok

its pretty easy to test. take case cover off. take room fan and blast at case. turn on computer and see if its stable. if not, its something else. heatsink fans might die, heatsinks themselves do not. air flow is airflow.

yea, im thinking its the temp...i blasted a room fan and the heatsink fan still dies and comes back to life once in a while but the temp went down to like 49 for the cpu and 27 for the mobo and it seems not to crash...guess that is the problem...

Never knew that overheating would cause computer to hang...

oh well...time to get a new 60 mm AMD fan...any recommendations and i need it fast so does bb, compusa, or cc have them in stock?

If your heatsink's fan is slowing down, it's almost certainly failing. I recommend replacing it ASAP. Here's a good buy on a very nice heatsink/fan combo: Taisol 760-series and I'm not positive that it comes with the pictured patch of phase-change thermal material, so also get a little tube of high-quality thermal grease so you've got your bases covered.

Or if you have a spare fan that'll fit the heatsink, use that. Hope that helps iron out the problem :) By the way, if the case really is above 35C inside, you should see what you can do to reduce that. Improve the airflow within the case with an exhaust fan, if it's only got its power-supply fan for exhaust. Tuck the cables out of the way so air can flow well, and make sure the case isn't trapped in an unvented area like a computer desk or something.

its probably the same price to just get a cheap cooler. unless you feel like buying an 80mm to 60mm adaptor. i think casemod.com or was it case-mod.com had em for like a buck or two. then buy any 80mm fan:p

no wait, those stock coolers have odd fan mounts you can't replace without glue etc. just buy a cheapie cooler for 12 bux or whatever. or ghetto glue a fan on ;)

it's case-mod.com
very hard to find, cause some people say casemod, some people say casemods, etc.
