Wondering about flashing BIOS and new CPU

If I get a motherboard that doesn't recognise the new 2400+ CPU w/o a BIOs flash (Gigabyte 7VRXP), and I chuck the 2400+ CPU in it (which is a TBred-B), what will happen?

Will it refuse to work, or will it think it's a 2000+ or something?

If it doesn't work, how do I flash the BIOs without a working CPU on it in the first place? I don't really have a tray of old Athlons lying around.

It should work fine, the CPU should still work in a very basic 8-bit/16-bit legacy mode, I forget what its called (virtual 8088 mode or something like that).

Agreed, this crippled mode allows you to get basic functionality.
