Wonder if they'll just crunch his SL600

A wee bit late I guess when it comes to atot speed, but this is ridiculous.

231km/h down Don Valley Parkway whilst drunk... I hope they crunch up his SL600.

That's the most idiotic policy I've ever heard. They should seize the cars and auction them, use the proceeds to pay down some of that horrific debt.

Whomever thought it was a good idea to crush perfectly working vehicles needs a bullet in the brain.

The law is just heavy fines and 1 week impoundments at this point. Not sure when the car gets crunched, if at all. I'll have to re-read the law.

I have no problem with heavy punishment for street racers / drunk drivers, but destroying vehicles is idiotic at best.

Why?

Destroying vehicles creates demand for more vehicles to be produced so the auto companies have something to do

Ah, genius! Let's go destroy everyone's vehicles so that they will have to buy new ones! Why didn't I think of that?

Yes, this is not a zero-sum game, and if the idiot who has his car seized can afford another *new* one, then that will *slightly* aid the car company. It's probable that most of the offender types (with the ten-gear-old Civics with an exhaust and stickers) just buy more used cars. But in an industry that produces millions of cars yearly, a couple hundred being destroyed off the market isn't going to be even a blip.

Getting thousands of $$$ at auction to pay off state debts is far more sensible than paying for them to be destroyed. An SL600 in good condition is easily $50k+ if it's not too old.

They eventually caught up to the accused speed demon at Highway 404 and Finch, and after slapping the cuffs on him, charged him with impaired driving, dangerous operation of a vehicle - and stunt driving.

If he was indeed going that fast, how the hell did they catch him?

They don't crunch cars here.

The DVP is a windy road to go that fast though. It's pretty impressive.

Yea doing it at 200+ would be very cool.

Isn't 150 km/hour an automatic $10k fine in Ontario? or $5k? It's some completely fvcking retarded number, so now on the QEW I'm sure to keep it below that, regardless of what traffic is doing.

You live in Canada again?

It doesn't count. It was all in GTA. I'm surprised he didn't pull out a gun and steal another car.

lol, wrong GTA... this is Greater Toronto Area, a real place.

There is this new invention called Radio. A fellow named Tesla did it first.

150 is crazy fast, given how shitty our road is. This ain't autobhan.

I imagine he wasn't doing 231 all the way. There is no way it will hold on some spots that gets icy at 2am.

I do have to say it is very easy to speed in a Benz... I have to constantly check the speedometer to keep myself in check. Good thing I am only 'borrowing' my wife's E350 4Matic 🙂

231 (kilometers / hr) = 143.536745 mph

I wonder how they actually measured the speed... a car that weighs 4,455lbs making 510hp... i think it would be hard pressed to actually get to that speed unless coniditions were perfect.

wind resistance matters much more at those speeds than weight does

I think the speedometer goes to 260km/h...160mph for the metric challenged. I am sure he was just leadfooting the whole strech of dvp. Being drunk does allow you to be more brave 🙂
