Won a cheap-ass 5.1 system

Seems to me that these are being misleadingly marked as "surround sound" but in fact have no way of outputting a true 5.1 surround sound signal. *sues wal-mart for false advertising*

Unless there's another connector on the back of that unit... seems unlikely though. And after googling it, at least one other person was skeptical of the surround sound capabilities of this unit.

It's a pure Dolby Pro Logic unit only. It has no DD or DTS capabilities. The video RCA plug is a pass-through. You're not going to get positional sound out of this thing, at best, you'll get an upmixed stereo-to-4.1 from a computer. A DVD, tv, VCR or Console will be able to give you DPL surround, which'll at least send a mono signal to both rear speakers.

I would toss this thing, it's not even worth it for free. If you want true surround capabilities from your PC, you either need PC speakers, or a reciever/speaker combo that has 6 analog inputs (Front, center, rear, sub).
