Women's vs. Men's Hoops-Who would win?...Poll

This is inspired by a poll on another site cracking on the UNC hoops team, saying the UCONN women (who are undefeated this year) could beat them.

Could they really? Of course not. No women's team could beat any men's Division 1A major college team.

Then the discussion turned to if the UCONN women could beat a high school men's team.

That's what the poll is, UCONN women vs. HS boy's team.

I say a good HS team still smokes them. They might beat a bad HS team, but not a good one.

Anyway, I was just interested in what people on a mostly non-sports board would think.

My first poll, btw. 🙂

Edit: took out one answer, edited the first one.

This is a tough one.....my friends and I debated about this once.

UConn women's team playing a bad HS team would smoke them, IMO.

I'm going to say that a top notch HS boys team could beat the UConn women. Here's why:

I was recently reading and listening to reports about this HS phenom named LeBron James. According to some NBA GMs, he could be a lottery pick if he left HS today. Get this: he's a junior. I forget who, but someone said that he's more skilled than Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett, when they were that age. In some HS tourney, his team played some HS powerhouse (forget what school), that is supposed to have a bunch of seniors going to Division I schools. LeBron James' team was basically him and some other scrubs. Despite his extreme talent, the other team beat out LeBron's team. So if LeBron was NBA level talent, that other team must have had some great ballers near NBA talent, at least NCAA Div I talent. Therefore, that HS powerhouse team could beat the UConn chicks.

Just my hypothesis

Don't get me wrong, when I played basketball at the Univ. of Michigan rec center, there were some chicks who would come and make plenty of men look stupid. 😀

<< No women's team could beat any men's Division 1A major college team. >>

Are you for real?
Come on man get your head out of your butt.
I would take UConn or any top 10 womens teams to win against the bottom 1/4 of the mens teams anyday.
What is your basis for thinking this?

EDIT: To iamme
One man does not make a team.

Another reason the women's team would lose: size

UConn Huskies (women's) roster

2 Ashley Valley G 5-9 Fr.
3 Diana Taurasi G/F 6-0 So.
5 Maria Conlon G 5-9 So.
10 Sue Bird G 5-9 Sr.
12 Stacey Marron G 5-9 Fr.
15 Asjha Jones F/C 6-2 Sr.
20 Morgan Valley G 6-0 So.
22 Ashley Battle F 6-0 R-Fr.
31 Jessica Moore C 6-3 R-Fr.
32 Swin Cash F 6-2 Sr.
34 Tamika Williams F 6-2 Sr.
NOTE: Preseason roster

They're too small, even for HS boys

I went to UCONN and so root for the Huskies, but a good High School boys team would smoke them. The women are a great team and would be able to pass and shoot as well as the boys, but that's it. The UCONN team goes 6'2" 6'2" 6'2" across the front line and 6'0" and 5'9" in the backcourt. There is absolutely nobody on that roster that could stop even a decent HS forward or center from scoring at will in the paint. And unlike playing against other women where UCONN's speed can force turnovers and create fast breaks, against the guys they'd be the ones that look like they were standing still. The guys are too big, too strong and and too fast. The women might be able to knock off 5 guys they meet in a gym that get thrown together, but they'd never be able to beat a real team.

The girls are just too short and too weak. No offense to them, they're an absolutely great team but it's just the way they are. All the boys team would have to do is just go down low on every play and Shaq around down there. Game over. Any good high school team would probably have at least 3 guys over 6'3". They would most likely be stronger too, so getting rebounding position, although a lot of it is skill and desire, would be easier for guys. The only thing would be shooting from the outside which I'm guessing the girls would do better, and what size ball are we using here, guys or girls? Boys have bigger balls and heavier too so using a guys ball would throw off the girls' shots and vice-versa, although a smaller ball would help the boys shoot a higher percentage if they got used to it.

Anyway, I think the guys would win.

<< Boys have bigger balls and heavier too.... >>

Well, duh....

Seriously, I forgot about that aspect. This might be a disadvantage for both sides, though. It's just a matter of what you're used to. It'll probably throw off the shooters on both sides...

I think the best women's college teams would be pretty competitive at the state level if they were a high school men's team...but I don't think they could be a national champion.

I really wish someone would set up this game...just to shut one side up...

a bad high school mens team would beat UCONN.

think about this: The 2000 GOLD MEDAL USA Women's soccer team (ya know Mia Hamm, Brandie Bra etv...) practiced against high school boys teams. THEY NEVER WON--- NOT EVEN ONCE!

<< I don't think they'd stand a chance at the newly crowned Lincoln boys team, new national champions at 40-0 this year 😀 >>

Chris Bosh. 6'10" 220lbs
18.1 points, 10.6 assists(typo?)

he could shoot over them without jumping. good luck, ladies.

well, i don't know about "bad". keep in mind, there are alot of high schools out there. my old high school basketball team really, really sucked. 😛

I didn't say the BOTTOM of Div 1. I said: <<No women's team could beat any men's Division 1A major college team.>>

Now that I think about it though, I'd say ANY Men's college team could beat the UCONN women. Size. Strength. Speed. The women couldn't handle it.

Look at the bottom half of the ACC. FSU, Clemson, UNC. All have terrible records, all have bad RPI rankings.

Yet all would beat the UCONN women by 50, easily, if you could get them to take the game seriously, which would be the hard part.

No disrespect to the women, they're a GREAT team, but that can't overcome vastly superior size and ability. So I still say any good HS team would win easily.

I have a few comments here..

I live in Cleveland, and have seen LeBron James play....by the way, his team has several good players other than LeBron, but that is besides the point...and he will be the first player picked in the 2003 NBA draft, heck, if he was in this year's draft he would go in the top 3, if not the top overall pick....

If we are talking about nationally ranked HS boys teams, then yes, they would beat the UConn women's team. However, if we are talking about your normal, down the street, 12-12 boys teams, then I believe the Uconn women would beat them. Using a woman-sized basketball would hurt they guys a bit, and they are used to playing against teams with taller frontlines than they have...they block out, they pass extremely well, and they shoot the 3 very well, negating most teams height advantage against them. Tennessee's women's team has a much bigger frontcourt, including a center who can and has dunked in a game, and Uconn out-rebounded them by 10 or so..

I think their shooting and fundamentals, along with the fact that they are exceptional talents (for men or women), would be enough to beat normal HS boys teams..hard to define good HS vs normal HS teams though....

I went to UCONN, so my vote goes to UCONN women.

I've actually had the chance to play with Shea Ralph in our rec. facility, she's quick and can shoot (i wasnt guarding her...really) 😉

I'm talking a GOOD, HS team. Not somebody like Oak Hill, that wouldn't even be close...they could beat some men's college teams.
And I'm not talking some small private school team that can barely fill out the roster, either.

I'm talking a good HS team, your average HS playoff contender. I think the HS team would win easily.

I live in NC just outside of Raleigh, and I'll bet that ANY of the local conference teams in Raleigh could win. Of course, 2 of the teams have McDonald's All Americans on them, too. 😉

Have you seen their stats? They are incredible, they shoot like 50% from the floor, 42% threes, have a 30 point difference in offense/defense, its pretty nuts!

The men would win. If you ever watch women's basketball, you know why. 17/18 year old men can dunk, rebound above the rim, etc. They would also have a severe height disadvantage. The women wouldn't be able to stop them down low and would get around 4 rebounds in the entire game.
