I didn't read the article either, but it makes sense to me. I can see how someone who is unhappy with their body or believes they will be happier with some type of surgury would be 3 x more likely to commit suicide.
 
Stupid report. It should be titled "Breast implants linked with suicide in Sweden study" and state that "Women in Sweden who get cosmetic breast implants are nearly three times as likely to commit suicide as other women in Sweden".
 
I would think that it male genatalia were on our foreheads, the suicide rate would rise dramatically, too. 😉

I think if male genetalia were on our foreheads it would be harder to be kicked in the balls... I kind of like the idea, except for the fact we'd all look similar to elephants...

I think this is more the indicator then the cause. IE who goes and gets a breast implant? Someone that is uncomfortable with there appearance and probably prone to depression (women tend to get more depressed then men as well. so its a bad sign all around)

I'm not sure if you meant to state it in such an extreme way on purpose or not, but the vast majority of women that I have met with implants are not uncomfortable with their appearance or prone to depression. They just happen to be willing to spend the money and don't have any moral conflicts about breast surgery. I am convinced that the general view on breast implants in America would change radically if the entire cost was only $20. At the very least, we would see many more women with implants that way which would lead to them being viewed much more as "the norm" and far less taboo. We would also see many more women getting lifts instead of implants.

Women who get breast implants are not mentally/emotionally stable to begin with. They're just breasts. Even if you have a masectomy, breasts don't make you who you are so replacing them isn't going to change who you are. If it does, you're not firmly grounded in reality.

The surgery is probably just the straw that breaks the camel's back.

From the title it sounds like the jornalists are not familiar with that whole correlation is not causation thing, as per usual.
 
Hmm, interesting. I wonder what the researchers found out about men with breast implants? I'd be curious to know.
